| scolest's Full Review: IBM ThinkPad T40p 2373 (2373G5U) PC Notebook |
I bought a 2373G1U in May of 2003 when I went into business for myself. I had had Compaq and Dell laptops in the past. That was fine when my employer was there to swap them out when they seemed to break every 12 months or so (screen problems/keyboard problems/hard drive problems/whatever.) But it was NOT going to be ok when I needed the machine for my every day use.
This laptop is incredibly well designed. There is NONE of the power management flakiness, BIOS strangeness, etc. that you see on a lot of laptops. There are a thousand nice touches that you won't find anywhere else - the build quality is just great. Hands-down the best laptop I've used (and I've been using laptops for almost 10 years now.)
I think Thinkpads are the Dewalt of the laptop world...most of the other stuff out there is of the Skil/Ryobi variety.
My only negative comment is that IBM's support hasn't been quite as helpful as I'd hoped. I had a problem getting BlueTooth working that they were unable to help with (that is, getting it to work with a PocketPC.) Also, do NOT be overly eager to grab all of IBM's system updates, and make careful note when you do. You may find yourself occasionally rolling back a driver update if you aren't careful.
