Another $1.00 Item:
.....A couple summers ago, I was at a family reunion, way out of my close family. At the event, a few people set up a raffle ticket table with a bunch of items ranging from sports coolers to storage containers. Among the things up for raffle was a set of Rubbermaid storage containers. I put in a few tickets for that and a Pyrex dish. When they did the drawings, I ended up winning both items. Lucky me. But that's how I got these containers for a buck. I decided to give them to my mother as a gift.
.....We use our Rubbermaid containers everyday to store leftovers in. We use them more than our Tupperware. The problem with Tupperware is that they are not clear and you cannot see the contents. We always open them to see what's in them, only to find the wrong thing or food gone bad. With Rubbermaid clear containers you can see what's in them right away without opening them. And with this one being rectangular, they fit in the fridge more space efficiently. They come in various sizes that allow them to fit into on another when being stored in the cupboard.
The Container:
..The bowl itself is entirely clear with a whitish tint. It has a faceted surface going around it. This adds a nice textured looked that really makes it look better. There is a lip going around the top that slants slightly outwards to make a tight, leak-proof seal with the lid. As far as scratch resistant, I couldn't tell you that. I don't use glass plates or bowls at supper. I use our Rubbermaid and Tupperware containers. So naturally mine will be scratched from constant forks and spoons scraping them. But they will stay mostly scratch less when used as containers only. But back to the bowl. There are no squared off edges on the container on the inside bottom and side edges. This makes scooping out food and cleaning much easier.
..The Rubbermaid containers are also good at keeping stains off. Our Tupperware always gets saucy red when using it to store saucy stuff. However, with the Rubbermaid, I find stains to be no problem at all. So far, none of the Rubbermaid has a stain or even a slight red tint, or any color for that fact. The inside is very smooth and non porous. I even microwave Chef Boyardee Raviolis with sauce in it. Months later, nothing.
..On the bottom of the dish is a little raised ring going around that just gives it something to sit on I guess. The bottom displays the size of the dish, the ABC order, in this case A, ID number and recycle code. The Rubbermaid dishes that are similar in shape are labeled with a letter. They stack in ABC order for efficient storage.
Lid:
..Like the container, the lid is mostly a clear with whitish tint. However, it has a blue rubber thing going around the edge. That is what makes the container waterproof. On the one corner it has an easy grip tab that makes it easy to open. Like the bottom of the bowl, there is a raised bump in the inside part of the lid. I was playing around and realized that the bowl fits right into the ring on the lid snugly. I think it was meant to give the lid somewhere to go and to give the container something to sit on. On the inside by the easy grip tab, the same information is listed that is on the container. It says the letter of the bowl so you don't have to get the wrong lid out. RUBBERMAID is also written on the lid.
..When you want to microwave some leftovers, just open the lid a little to leave a vent and throw it in the mike for a few minutes. You won't have to worry about staining the dish from microwaving.
Every-thing Safe: mostly
..Here is a list of the does and don'ts of the Rubbermaid Seal 'n Saver stuff:
--Dishwasher safe
--Fridge and freezer safe (leave a comment telling me what you'd keep in the freezer with this)
--Microwave safe
--NOT FOR STOVETOP (I pity anyone who tries)
--NOT FOR USE IN OVENS
--NOT FOR USE IN BROILER
Cleaning:
..The Rubbermaid sets are always easy t clean. They are pretty nonstick and smooth surfaces make it easy to clean. Just wash it with DAWN or something with your other dishes or take the easy way out and use the dishwasher (not a privilege of mine). The only problem with washing is the lid. If you get anything greasy on the rubber part of the lid, stuff stays on it. So make sure you get it cleaned.
More Uses? Wow!:
..The Rubbermaid containers can be used for far more than just kitchen use. They make for great storage in other areas as well. Here are some examples:
--Craft supplies
--Food of course
--Beads, stones (mmhm), whatnot
--Waterproof container for medication and supplies on camping trips
--I dunno, maybe a pencil box
Warentee:
..I don't know much about, but like Tupperware, it has a lifetime warrantee. I guess you call the Rubbermaid lady and have them make a house call. I just saw the Rubbermaid lady driving her nice black car through our complex today.
