I recieved Special Agent Nanny by Linda O Johnston from EHarlequin as part of their 4 free books and buy nothing campaign.
Special Agent Nanny is part of the Harlequin Intrigue series, and also part of Colorado Confindential subseries.
What I like about the Harlequin Intrigue series is that they are not all romance and fluff--there is a real storyline, and the characters seem very real.
Not your typical Harlequin!!

Shawn Jameson is a Colorado Confidential Special Agent. Before joining the secret service, he was also a firefighter and now is the best arson detecter that Colorado Confidential has.
Shawn doesnt mind being a specialist until he finds himself in a new role with a twist. A deadly twist at that.
When Gilpin Hospital's record room is mysteriously set on fire, and a baby is kidnapped in the process, Colorado Confidential is called in.
Who else is the agency going to send but their arson specialist?
Sending Shawn is not the problem, convincing Shawn to go is the problem.
Because the hospital is suspecting arson, everything must be done undercover. No problem there.
So..handsome, hunky, 100% male Shawn Jameson is sent to Gilpin Hospital to investigate the arson but undercover as...a day care worker.
Gilpin Hospital is lucky enough to have it's own private on site daycare for their employees children and what better spot to place a investigator.
After all from that vantage point, Shawn will get to meet and know the various hospital staff, in a no stress situation, he can also investigate the records room which is right down the hall from the daycare.
Arson is not the only problem Gilpin Hospital has.
There seems to be a neglectful doctor on board. But who is it?
Could it really be pretty Dr Kelley Stanton's fault that several people died last fall due to an unknown outbreak in the timberland surrounding the area?
Or could it be Dr Stanton's ex husband, Dr Randall Stanton-at work trying to discredit her, or even worse make her lose her mind.
Perhaps it is Cheryl Marten, who is Dr Randall Stanton's latest conquest. Cheryl does seem to have an agenda of her own and she is very bitter towards both Kelley Stanton, and Jenna-who is the Stanton's 3 year old daughter.
And what about the mysterious outbreak of flu like symptons resulting from being in the timberland surrounding the county? Why isnt Louis Paxler, Administrator to Gilpin Hospital more concerned about the citizens of Gilpin? Instead, he seems only worried about discrediting Dr Kelley Stanton, and sweeping the rest under the carpet.
Who knows, perhaps Dr Kelley Stanton, single mother to 3 year old Jenna Stanton and ex wife to Dr Randall Stanton, is to blame.
My Thoughts
I found this book very interesting and it kept me glued to the edge of my chair right to the very end.
Unlike the Harlequins of my mom's day, this one had several turns and twists in the story line and was not predictable at all.
I really felt some emotions for and against some of the characters, which shows the author, Linda O Johnston, knows what she is doing when she puts an book together.
