Re: option to buy xuv (Reply to this comment)

Forget anything to do with the factory GPS. You lose the ability to play CDs and that unit is way over-priced. Just get a Magellan or Garmin so you can move it from vehicle to vehicle. As for the rear-view camera, I have a cheapo one from Costco that cost me about $85 so don;t waste any money at the stealership.
As for price, I'd check with www.kbb.com
Hope that helps you.

option to buy xuv (Reply to this comment)
by chas2010
Criteeker, that was a very good review and has helped me along in making a decision.
I am looking at buying a 2004 xuv xlt. It has 29 Kmiles and the asking price is 15 K$. I know the guy well and his reason for selling (serious illness), so I am on solid ground there, he takes very good care of his stuff. I think the price is good (correct me there if not) but I only have a few ?s that some might help with, if you could.
Would it be both a good move and possitle to have the original GPS and backup camera retrofitted bu a GMC dealer? If so, what do you estimate the cost to be?
Any comments would be highly appreciated.

Best Reference Ever (Reply to this comment)

Thanks so much man. You have been a better help on the XUV than any GM representative. This review is totally accurate and extremely informative. Its validity is publishable and the most accurate review of the XUV out there. If you are considering buying one, read this and form you own opinion, but feel confident in the accuracy of this review. Good work man.

Question about Bar Kit 12497469 (Reply to this comment)
by mathi1pt
I was wondering, when you ordered the bar kit, did it just fit into place, or did you have to modify it all? Also, when you ordered it did it come as a set of 2 cross bars, or a single bar only? One final question, was it just the cross bars, no drilling required/they just fit into the tracks/rails already installed (the chrome side rails on the roof)?
I have contacted a plethora of GM people, and no one can provide any answers as to specifics because the part is discontinued (i found a website who still has them in stock :) )
Thanks for your time

Thanks for your comment, but I thought you would have written a review on the XUV by now. Go for it!

XUV - It all makes sense now.... (Reply to this comment)
by marcheld
I just bought one of these vehicles last week. An '04 with less than 10000 miles. Its like new.
Paid a fraction of the List price. Less than 28G's!
I figure the "X" in XUV means "Cross" Utility Vehicle, meaning it is a Cross between an SUV and a Pickup. Like the Avalanche, but I think much more useful because of the electric midgate, the dual action tailgate, and sliding roof.

Re: Love the concept but not totally happy yet (Reply to this comment)

That's too funny...I sold my 93 Trooper and bought the XUV. As for the GPS snafu, if you had read my review BEFORE you bought it, you'd know dumb design flaw. If you still have problems ordering the roof rack for the XUV, please email me and I will put you in contact with the main parts guy at GMC who helped me get the correct rack.

Love the concept but not totally happy yet (Reply to this comment)

The xuv has alot of potential and that is why I bought it to replace my dead 96 trooper.
Two problems so far.
Although the dealer promised me roof racks that would work, they have yet to get me a set to fit the xuv. They have told me that the correct ones are on order. I need them so that I can go kayaking before winter sets in. GMC should make it a standard option for the vehicle since it does about everything else.
Secondly, no one told me that the navigation system that I paid $2,000 for will not let you play a CD when you use it. So when you go on a trip you can't listen to a cd and find your way! The engineer who designed the unit should be sent to Japan to find out how to do it correctly. I would have gotten an after marked unit instead of suffering with the GM one. The dealer can't believe it either.
Maybe I should return the vehicle and get one without the unit and go after market.
Concept wise it is a great vehicle. I carry alot of cargo for work and have two labs I take down the the quarry behind my house and now I don't have to worry about wiping them off before they get back in the xuv.
It does drive like an old man's car. I still have the Boxster to feel young on weekends!

LOL Thanks Mark. Yeah, there is a port for an air compressor. And they sell a tent accessory, so a mattress for the back cargo area would be the X-Rated thing. Maybe it stands for eXtreme?

Hmmm.... (Reply to this comment)
by mrkstvns
I don't know what's up with that dumb XUV thing either. I guess if "S" stood for "sport", then "X" stands for...hmmm...I guess X-rated. So then, is there like a vibrating bed in the back of this thing. *THAT* would have also have some genuine Utility, wouldn't it?
Nice review!
