The Bottom Line Rest.

Yes, stress can occur on your body, even your hands, when it is overused, but more than likely pain occurs from incorrect use.

Playing any instrument requires practice and with that practice you should also be practicing how to perform correctly.

I play the guitar and many of the songs that I love to play use the fingerpicking technique, which can easily be played incorrectly. What to do? If you are playing an instrument for fun, take some lessons. Instructors will easily pick up on your mistake and challenge you to fix it. This will encourage you to practice the right way.

When I walked into my first guitar lesson I felt really horrible, that I didn't know anything. When I completed my lessons after three years, I realized I had learned so much about playing the guitar. That included how to play correctly to keep myself from danger.

If you do feel pain after playing your instrument, stop for a while. Let your muscles relax, even use an ice pack or place a warm water bottle on the area to comfort yourself a bit.

If you practice in excess and the pain stems from this, you are only harming yourself causing you to play incorrectly or to not perform as well, especially if you are in pain. This comes with anything you do in life, writing, playing music, playing sports, even sleeping.

Take care of your whole body. Rest is essential in life, this includes your hands while playing instruments.

Good luck.
