Nick's Guilty Pleasures Mix

The Bottom Line I like some messed up music.

We all have those songs that we like but we don’t want anyone else to know that we like. Those songs that aren’t what we normally listen to, but we still like them for some reason. The fact that we like those songs seems out of character. We all have our guilty pleasures, musically. For the most part, I like punk rock and hip hop. For some reason there are a few songs that I like that don’t fit into those genres. My friend Tony suggested I make a guilt pleasures mix on epinions. It seemed like a good idea. I figured, “yeah I got a few guiltily pleasure songs, I could write that”. So here we are now, this is Nick’s Guilty Pleasures Mix

Prince - When Doves Cry

I’m not a Prince fan at all. The reason I like this song is hard to explain. I think this is the only Prince song I even know of other than 1999. This song is pretty catchy. I downloaded the mp3 off of Napster and I listen it sometimes. It’s one of those songs that I listen to with headphones, you’ll never hear it blaring on my speakers.

Kriss Kross - Jump

I consider myself to be a hater of pop-rap. As a child, I didn’t care though. The song Jump reminds me of being a kid. I remember when I was younger and kids at my school would wear their clothes backwards like Kriss Kross it was funny. Now this song just seems extremely cheesy, although we do have a rapper similar to Kriss Kross named Lil Bow Wow that’s around today. I think they were both produced by Jermain Dupre.

Get Up Kids - I’m a Loner Dottie, A Rebel

This may not seem like a guilty pleasure to some. Some people are open Get Up Kids fans. I’m a closet Get Up Kids fan. I feel like such a p*ssy when I listen to them. They’re the opitomy of an emo band. I guess in a sense, I’m an emo kid cause I like Weezer. When I listen to EMO I don’t feel like a tough guy. I’m a Loner Dottie, A Rebel is by far the best Get Up Kids song. It’s from a line in a Pee Wee Herman movie.

Men Without Hats - The Safety Dance

This is a classic 80’s song. I enjoy the video, with the midgets running around in medieval costumes. This song is so cheesy it’s good. I wouldn’t be caught dead with a Men Without Hats CD though. This is another one of those songs that I downloaded on Napster.

Haddaway - What Is Love

I was introduced to this song when saw the hilarious movie A Night at the Roxbury. This song is a poppy dance song. I can’t help but bop my head from side to side like the guys in the movie.

Reel to Real - I Like To Move It

This song came out in the early 90’s. It was a on hit wonder song, I doubt many of you people even remember it. It’s a poppy dance song with some reggae vocals layered over the beat. I was reminded of this song in a Tom Green show skit when he want to a bank with a group of dancers and danced to this song, it was funny.

Scat Man John - Scat Man

It’s hard not to laugh at the title of this song, cause when I think of scat I think of poo, not a musical style. This song is yet another poppy dance song, except the vocals are this scat style of singing. I think my local top 40 radio station played this song for a little while. This song is featured in the movie Baseketball.

Van Halen - Runnin With the Devil

Van Halen are not a bad I listen to often. I don’t own any of their CDs. I’m not a metalhead, my hair is not feathered, and I do not sport a mullet. When I listen to this song I like to make the metal sign. The solos are pretty good.

Amber - Sexual

This song is europop at it’s best. I’m not really into that type of music, but this one stands out for some reason. The lyrics are quite cheesy. They’re the same old slightly sexy lyrics you hear today in a Brittany Spears song.

Azar Habib - Hatten Ar Din

This song is a crazy middle eastern song. I can’t understand any of the lyrics. I’m not even sure what language they are in. My friend Tyler recommended this song to me. It’s really weird, but at the same time you can’t get it out of your head. I know a lot of the word to this song, but I don’t even know what I’m saying.

Blue Oyster Cult - Don’t Fear the Reaper

I saw a funny skit on SNL about this song. I decided to go download it on Napster. It’s actually quite good. I don’t think I’d ever admit to liking it though.

Bobby Brown - Humpin Around

Good ol Bobby Brown. This song is so cheesy you can’t help but love it. The lyrics are quite dumb, but who cares.

Honorable Mention
These songs weren’t on top, and probably wouldn’t fit on the mix tape, but I still wanted to add some more songs, here goes.

Dee Lite - Groove Is In the Heart
Falco - Rock Me Amadeus
Frankies Goes to Hollywood - Relax
Mousse T - All Night Long I’m Horny
OutThere Brothers - I Wanna f*ck you in the a$$
Prozzak - Sucks to be You

Well that was fun. I think this was the mix tape that I’ve had the most fun with. I hope I’m not alone on all of these songs. Maybe I am. Who cares if I am.
