I bought the SD-2300 even though I was looking for the SD-2200 model. It looks as though the 2300 is now selling for the same price as the 2200 ($299); perhaps Nuon is going the way of Sega. Frankly, I couldn't care less as I bought this unit to play DVD.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it also plays CD (store-bought) and CD-R (recorded on my Mac with Apple's iTunes and an external CDRW recorder. Wouldn't play an audio CD-R burned with Toast but as long as I can use iTunes, I'll re-burn my (small) collection. I didn't expect to find this CD-R feature and had budgeted for an extra piece of equipment (a separate CD player) but this feature saved me $100.
All Toshiba DVD players have "Colorstream" ports which are what the rest of us call "component video". You'll need a set of "Monster" cables (expensive) to connect this unit to a Toshiba TV (my recommendation, anyway). There's also a digital coax audio port for connection to a home theater system (yep, special cable as well). You can utilize simple "RCA"-type analog video and audio cables (if you're a cheap bastard) for direct connection to your comparably-equipped TV and home stereo. However, the quality of the video and audio is so superior when using component video and digital audio that you would be doing yourself a disservice not to take advantage of the features with a component video TV and a good home theater system.
