The Avery Stuff:
.....The Avery Dennison Corporation has been manufacturing quality office supplies for years. They make everything from printing supplies to these quarter-inch reinforcing labels. Most all of the products on the Avery line can be purchased at office supply stores around the nation, such as Staples, Office Depot, etc. Or you can purchase their line at Avery.com and many other online suppliers. In this review, the Avery reinforcing labels are reviewed.
The Binding Truth:
.....We all use, or have used, binders in our lives, whether in school or at work. One issue that we all encounter is when we put loose-leaf paper in the binder and eventually rip the holes. Even when you're careful, just the constant tossing and flipping of pages is enough to wear down the holes. Over time, the holes rip and let the paper fall from the rings of the binder. This could cause you to lose a valuable paper or any other paper for that matter. Or if one or two holes rip, the paper stays at an angle, sticking out and getting bent, making your binder look less presentable and make you look irresponsible. If this happens to you, then you are in need of the Avery Reinforcement labels.
What Are They?
.....Avery reinforcement labels are little doughnut-shaped circles of plastic or paper. They are meant to be placed on each hole of a sheet of notebook paper or handout. Then when you put it in a binder, the holes are reinforced and won't rip. The Avery reinforcing labels come in either white or clear. The white ones are made of a sticker paper. The clear ones are composed of plastic, since paper can't be made clear (yet). The labels are on a non-stick strip several feet long. The boxes also come in different sizes. The one displayed at the top of this page is a 200-count box. You can also get them in a 1000 count if you wish, at a better value. If you have several papers in a binder that you want to put hole rings on, then you are better off getting the 1000 count box instead of several small boxes.
Application:
.....Applying the reinforcement labels is a breeze. When you need one, just get one from the strip without opening the box (discussed below). With it sticking to the fingertip of your index finger and your thumb on the other side, put it above the hole on the paper and gently press it down with your thumb, sliding your thumb across it as you lay it on. Once it is applied to the paper, just rub your finger over it once more to smooth it out and to make sure that the edges are not sticking up. Though I made it sound like a long process to apply these labels, it really only takes two seconds a sticker.
.....You only need one sticker label for each hole one the paper, just on the front. However, if you are like me, I like to apply one to each hole on both sides using six per page. This is unnecessary, but I just like doing it. Using three per page is more than enough to do the job. So don't think you need to apply them to both sides, these labels are built strong and made to last forever without ripping.
The Box:
.....The box that you get these ring labels in is designed to release the stickers without you having to use your nail to pick it off. The strip of labels comes out at the top right corner. On the inside, they run behind a flap to keep it against the side of the box. When they come out, they go straight down the side of the box, through a sleeve. And at the bottom right you can pull the strip and a sticker will peel from the strip without you touching it. When the strip runs up the inside and straight down the outside, the sticker won't stay on the paper and sticks up.
.....The only problem with this, and the entire thing, is that if you use several stickers at a time, you get this long strand of paper running down to the floor that you have to constantly keep ripping. I guess you wouldn't really consider it a problem since where else would you expect it to go?
My Thoughts:
.....I think everyone should have a box of these in there desk or backpack. Whenever you have something to put in a binder, just put on three stickers and put it in. Don't let your papers rip and fall off the rings.
