KMart ~ where the shipping and tax can double your cost!

I am not a big KMart fan, never have been. I have nothing against them I just find much better deals at Target and Walmart. Therefore, I had never shopped at their online site either.
Well, as things always go ~ something happened and there I was shopping at KMart.com You see, my child was at my sister's Mother-in-laws house and the children were all going swimming. They all grabbed towels and sure enough, when they got home it was my child that was minus a towel! How, we don't know, but if you knew her, it really wouldn't be that big of a surprise! Anyway, I wanted to replace the towel (even though this sweet 76 year old women insisted it wasn't necessary) and so I went searching for that pattern. I finally found it at KMart.com and I was off to shop.
FINDING WHAT YOU NEED
There are two main ways to find what you are looking for~
1. The Search option which works by keyword.
2. The bar on the top of the page with 9 categories ~
• Apparel
• Baby & Toddler
• Health & Body
• Electronics
• Entertainment
• For the Home
• Jewelry
• Sport
• Toys
SHOPPING
When you find a product you are interested in you click on the products name or picture to get more information. Many of the items have an option of getting a larger picture which help prevent surprises when you get your order!
To purchase an item, you put in the number of the item you want to buy, then click on the ADD TO CART button. You can then continue shopping or head to checkout. You also have the option of adding the item to your wish list.
Once you are ready to checkout you need to give all the regular billing and mailing information. After picking a password, you will be able to have this information on file and save time on future orders.
After ordering, you will get a detailed order confirmation email. You are able to track your purchase online.
SHIPPING
Shipping costs are based on the weight of the total order. Therefore, if you place a larger order you should get a better shipping deal. I was only ordering one item so I can only assume this is the way it works.
For a $9.99 order the shipping cost were ~
Standard Ground, normally 3-8 bus. days - $5.98
Third Day, normally 3 business days - $8.63
Overnight, normally 1 bus. day - $18.68
After adding in tax, the cost went all the way up to $17.33!
I have never been a fan of shipping cost that are based on a hidden weight amount. I prefer a chart that list exactly what you will be paying ~ no guess work and everything is right there. It seems to me that even if it is based on weight, there could be a chart showing what the cost will be.
My order arrived right in their delivery window.

If my daughter hadn't lost the towel, I would never have shopped at KMart.com There good things about the site would be the easy navigation, the clear pictures and on time delivery.
The bad would be the lack of inventory and of course the high shipping cost. after finding the towels, I looked around and I would have expected more items. This is true though with a lot of the department sites ~ no makeup for example.
All in all, I would give the site three stars and probably not recommend them because of the high, and non posted, shipping cost. If I would have been able to find the towel at the local store, I would have and saved the shipping cost but there were none in stock. The only way I would be back would be if I had a great coupon!
I now pack a towel for my daughter in her backpack when she visits so I am hoping this will be my last towel search at ANY online site!
