How to throw a party, PCS Style
Written: Mar 13 '01
March 11: My girlfriend's 23rd birthday.
Rewind a week; I ask her if she wants a soiree to celebrate her 23rd brithday, "Sure," she says, "but where?" (Her apartment is not too big.) So, I call Mikey W, who lives in the City (I live in New Haven, CT)--it's free, because I get free long distance with my contract, and even though my cell phone number is NYC, I'm not roaming from Boston to DC. Big local coverage area.
March 7:Mikey W sez sure I can have a party at his pad. So I start making calls and sending emails from my Sprint PCS phone (I opted for Wireless Web at $10 a month), let my friends know about the get-together. Give 'em my cell phone number (it's NYC, so a local call for most of them, even though I'm stuck in the hinterlands of CT), and tell 'em to call me if they need directions. Don't need to worry about talk time, since for $35 I get 200 anytime and 1000 evening/weekend minutes.
March 9: Night of the party. Calls coming and going from my cell phone. I only miss one of them, and it was from another cell phone, so I don't know if the problem was on her end or mine. We have a great party, my girlfriend's happy, my cell phone saves the day.
