REALISE THE POTENTIAL IN A RELISYApr 13 '01 Write an essay on this topic.
Popular Products in Scanners
The Bottom Line Ease of use is a priority, it can be so frustrating sometimes when you want to scan something quickly.
Firstly, my apologies as I realise this op. isn't strictly speaking in the right category, however Epinions doesn't have a facility for adding different brands. I would however advise anyone looking for a scanner to look out for ease of use as I was surprised that most of them don't seem to be too straightforward. Good clear picture printing with realistic colour is necessary too and always bear in mind the amount of space the scanner will take up. I'll go on now to tell you about my own scanner which I have found excellent with all the above facilities and much more. My computer and the hardware supplied with it are now 6 months old and although I'm still not a computer whizz-kid, I am at least not quite as ignorant as I was over such matters,so hopefully my write up on my scanner will be of help to one or two of you out there. To the more computer literate of you out there, please be patient with me as I'm still learning!! When I first purchased this product, I have to say I was somewhat dubious. As I've already said I was a bit of a computer geek and I initially expected it to work in much the same way as my office photocopier did., ie., one click of the button and hey presto you have a photocopy of your document. I was therefore somewhat disappointed to find that scanning documents wasn't quite so straightforward. I have a Relisys Eclipse 1200U which I believe is a Russian make. I did think at first it was pretty complex to use, but after seeing my brother use his Canon scanner I have now revised my opinion,as mine appears to be far easier and quicker to use overall. In fact currently the only complaints I have about it is that it is rather noisy and vibrates somewhat when first turned on and when scanning documents. Additionally, it is quite large and takes up some considerable workspace on the shelf beneath my computer (dimensions are roughly 480mm x 300mm x 96mm). It is a flat bed scanner with Optical 600/1200/9600 dpi with a 36 bit colour depth. My documents have reproduced well and are extremely clear, photographs in particular have turned out incredibly well. The other specifications are: a USB interface, CCD Module scanning capable with 2D/3D object scanning and the blurb with the machine also mentions Professional scanner twain driver, Single pass scanning, Graphics & OCR textbridge software included. Hopefully the more technical amongst you will know what that all means. It is not possible to scan batches of documents however, each individual document having to be scanned separately, but you can of course increase or decrease the size of the document. Personally I don't use the twain device, as I save all my scanned items to My documents. I do know there is an album setting, whereby you can save your documents to a photo album and there are also special frame effects which you can use to enhance the printing or showing of photographs etc. to friends. There is a prescan facility whereby you can check your documents are straight and there is a device which can be used to edit exactly what you do want to print, but you can of course by pass this if you don't feel it is necessary. Documents are scanned and printed out in roughly 3 minutes which I am led to understand is relatively fast. The Ixla Photo suite (software provided with scanner) gives details of how you can be extra creative and artistic and make your own greetings cards, calendars, e-mail your photos to others, create a sideshow or webpage using your own design..........although all this is probably never going to be of any use to me however as I'm not artistic at all. My son manages however to mix and match photographs, create wavy effects, smokey effects and hazy images with little or no effort at all. I have seen this scanner advertised in the price range of anything from £33.00 to £84.00 so obviously it pays to shop around, but it seems to be readily available over the internet. All in all this is a fairly high quality product at a reasonable price and certainly I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. |
