The Good: The Radio 'Artist on Demand' is fun until they shut it down on me
The Bad: My Platinum account magically disappeared, and was billed twice for the service.
Overall: A very big bucket of headaches for me, no fun. I would not recommend this service to anyone. Buying music tracks isn't the greatest experience. And the customer service is far below average. There are many others offering the same service with better customer service. And offer a better functioning CD-Burner and player for free.
RADIO MX: I originally signed up for the Musicmatch Platinum radio 10/4/2003. I was billed twice the same day on my card statement. When I emailed them, they wanted me to fax my statement in to prove I was double billed. I emailed back that I did not like the idea of my credit card statement sitting in an open fax machine. Their response was call, and when I call, they tell me to fax in the statement. I had to get the second billing removed by my credit card's bank. And once the second charge finally was removed. Then my account magically changed back to a non-platinum account. I emailed the billing, and they said I'm setup for a platinum account. The trouble shooting included emptying my temp directory, and changing my password. Which how that could change my login user level is beyond me. To this day, I still have not been able to login as a platinum user even though I was billed for it. The main reason I went with the radio was for the 'artist on demand.' When I could use it, was pretty cool. But it's not worth all the headaches for me now.
TRACK DOWNLOADS: You start off by downloading their player for free. The player is not very functional for burning the CD's after you download the tracks. They cripple it down to a 2x burn unless youre willing to purchase the player. Most of its better features are turned off until you buy the player. The sample listens are shorter than there competitors it seems.
CONCLUSION: I will most likely have to write off my sixty dollars, and move onto a competitor of Musicmatch. If anything, this was a good lesson learned that I need to check reviews deeper before jumping into a subscription service. Instead of 'User Friendly' this turned out to be 'User Abuser.'
