Extended Warranties and the True Value of Epinions (ROADIEM write-off)
by theworm | Apr 13 '01
This post is part of a write-off in memory of "ROADIEM", who taught me a lot about cars and auto maintenance. Here's what I learned about Extended Automobile Warranties.

This is also a great and sincere review- nice job.
Roadiem's passing was unexpected for me as well and I had been planning to e-mail him as well. Like you have related I had the same type of interaction with Mike and only briefly. He was one of those people you only need to come across once to know their abundance of goodness.

Very much a tragic loss.

Thanks for your comments,
Tamera

Thanks for the wonderful article about my friend--you are like so many of us who were touched by the kindness and warmth of Roadiem. There will never be a nicer human being around these parts.

Thank you for your kind words, but mostly for organizing this write-off. It was a nice way for us all to pay tribute to Mike, and to help his family in some small way. Mike will be missed at epinions, but thanks to you, a lot more people are now aware of all his contributions!

can only say the same as you. He was a very helpful and thoughtful person who could not turn anyone away. Not to mention smart! Epinions lost a very big asset with the passing of my buddy.

Thank you for helping and I know that Mike would love the kind words you said.

written in honor to the memory of a great guy who never failed to share his knowledge of cars and always responded to an e-mail or comment.

I also wrote a review in Mike's memory. Please add me to your list so more hits can help to benefit the Lambert family. Also be sure to check wolfman309's profile because more names have been added.

Thanks for a touching review honoring Michael Lambert.

Excellent tribute to a wonderful man. I agree with you, I am glad he shared his knowledge and advice here on Epinions. Mike's knowledge will live on through his reviews.

Beautiful review.

Mike was special. I guess you and I were lucky to have known that already. Maybe, because of this write-off, other's will have the opportunity to "discover" his writing, and enjoy all that he shared with us.
Thanks!

I never got around to roadiem's reviews until now, but I agree that his approach -- and your experience with him -- exemplify everything good about this site and its contributors.

Well done without being maudlin.

Kudos, and thanks.

I never called on him for advice, but always looked forward to the comments he would leave on my reviews. He had a wonderful, warm sense of humor and will be sorely missed!

Thank you. I know that I didn't share a wealth of knowledge about warranties, but everything I know I learned from Mike. I wanted to participate in the write-off, and thought that sharing this story about Mike was worthwhile. I know that I'm a bit "off-topic", but it seems like readers understand why, and have been forgiving. Thanks for your words.

Wonderful Essay (Reply to this comment)

Both beautifully said, in his memory, and very helpful - I, like you, am rather auto-challenged, and my almost-husband and I will be getting our first car in just a couple of months (I'm just a couple years shy of 30). The information was invaluable, and the sentiments lovely and sad. Very beautiful.

A Wonderful Tribute (Reply to this comment)
by naphtalia
I'm not sure how much I learned about extended warranties, but what a pleasure to learn more about Mike/Roadiem. I, too, got to know him a bit through email. My opinion of him was always that he was all pros, no cons, a 5-star gentleman and rated a VH. In Yiddush, we would call him a mensch. My mother used to call people like him "a real human being."

Thanks again for sharing.

talia

P.S. I had to do research to make my Roadiem tribute worthy of his memory, too.
