I'm sorry if I left you with the impression that the network adapter requires the hard drive expansion. The hard drive bay is behind the section where the network adapter is mounted, but the network adapter can be mounted without the hard drive. Actually the hard drive is not a good idea anyway since it is very under-supported right now and probably will be for the lifespan of the console. You might also want to consider the new slimmer PS2 since it already has the networking hardware built in. The bad part is that it can't fit the hard drive in it, but as I mentioned earlier, it's all but useless due to the fact that many games can't store saved information on it.

help with network adapter (Reply to this comment)

This was a great review and I find your comparison to the other consoles especially helpful. I have long tried to convince my son that Nintendo is the way to go, but he thinks this is simply the generation gap talking :-)

I have looked at Network adapters lately and am somewhat confused by the statement that the adapter also requires a separate harddrive (yet to be released) and additional software. Does this mean the adapter in itself has absolutely no use? When will they release the harddrive, since the adapter has been on the market for quite some time.
Help...........so many questions, so little time till christmas.

Thanks

finally someone who rates the xbox has better hardware. thank you for giving out the facts instead of some one sided pro PS2 review. the thing is with the 40 GB hard drive, i have played at leasat half of all the xbox games and i still have 50,000 blocks left. thats only the 8 GB. you dont really need so much. well actually you might with all the games on PS1 and PS2. well thanks for writing a fair review!

I just wanted to say, you did an excellent job with your review. I was impressed. (I personally love the PS2. My son is entertained for hours with both old & new games) that's the main feature I love about it. But your review just left me saying... Wow, that was an awesome review!!!

~THANKS~

Actually a lot of the blurriness is due to the connection. If you're using a simple 3-pronged RCA connection, you'd see a considerable difference if you upgrade to an S Video cable or Component Video cable. However screen resolution does play a good sized role in how good a game looks too.

Good comparison. (Reply to this comment)

I must admit I am a sucker for graphics and the blurry lo-res of any console (due to tv limitations) kept me from considering one. The price, however, makes it somewhat unfair to compare to well equiped PCs (which is where I save the virtual world from invasions all the time).
