brendan2's Full Review: Sex and the City: The Complete Third Season
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
In honor of this being Sex and the City's final season, I have decided to review some of the show's classic episodes that are available on DVD. I didn't really get into the show until the first season DVD came out. I had watched the show before, quite often actually, but it was never one of my favorites. I managed to get the first season for free from a DVD club and bought the second and third seasons when they were released. I have seen all the episodes up until the final episode, which aired last night. Of all the seasons, the third is probably my favorite, so I will be writing my first Sex review on The Complete Third Season.
Season Three
The third season of Sex saw some big changes for the characters. Carrie uncharacteristically begins an affair with her ex Big (Chris Noth) while she is still with a great guy, Aidan (John Corbett). Charlotte succeeds in her quest to find the perfect husband when she meets the seemingly perfect Trey (Kyle MacLachlan), who just has one small problem. Miranda continues her on-again, off-again pattern with boyfriend Steve (David Eigenberg), and Samantha is still as man-hungry as ever. The third season includes a plethora of guest stars, including Carrie Fisher, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alanis Morissette, Matthew McConaughey, and even Hugh Hefner. I think this season improves on the previous two because the characters are well established, and the show seemed funnier to me. I liked the Big-Carrie-Aidan triangle, and overall this was a great season. This was also the season when the show won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, becoming the first cable series to ever do so.

About This Set
Sex and the City: The Complete Third Season is a three DVD set containing all 18 episodes of the third season. The sound and picture are great, much better than on TV. The extras include commentary on four episodes ("Easy Come, Easy Go," "All or Nothing," "Running with Scissors," and "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"), episode summaries and previews, a season index, the show's awards and nominations, information about the cast and crew, language selections (English, Spanish, or French) and a DVD-Rom feature which lets you go on to the official HBO site. The addition of all these special features makes the set well worth the price.
Final Thoughts Sex and the City was one of my favorite shows, and this is a fantastic set of episodes. I like the way the show was about looking for love without being sappy, and the third season is probably my favorite season. The sound and picture quality is much better than what you see on TV, and there are a lot of extras on the discs. Now that the show has ended, why not buy this set and enjoy some vintage Sex?
