At least it still prints well...

Pros:Decent price, useful functions (in a pinch), good printer. Better than some HP's I've owned.
Cons:If you plan on scanning, faxing, or copying often, get something else.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend it if you're only using it for printing documents, with the occasional other odd job thrown in.

Introduction

I have had my Lexmark X125 for about 5 1/2 months now. Throughout that time it has printed reliably for the most part, which is why I bought it.

The X125 is a four function inkjet printer. It also copies, faxes, and scans. I bought mine for around US$125.00 at Best Buy, and received a $20.00 in store gift certificate. The prices vary online, but are generally within the $100-$140 range.

Parameters

The Lexmark has a 2400x1200 dpi resolution in both black and color. When printing in black ink, it averages 16 pages per minute, and in color at 8 pages per minute. It can handle all types and sizes (up to legal) of paper, labels, and envelopes according to its official report, though I have only used it to print regular letter size, and scan a few documents and 4x6 photos.

The Lexmark has an LCD screen display that displays current system status, and also makes setting and switching functions fairly easy. It can copy in black ink at 12 ppm, or in color at 5 ppm. It uses two separate cartridges for black, and color ink.

Problems

I have found the Lexmark to be adequate to my needs. I am a law student, and use it primarily to print papers, and other documents. I use it very occasionally to print color graphics, and to scan photos. I have not used the fax function. It prints as well as one would expect of a $125 inkjet printer. The other functions are adequate in a pinch, but highly inconvenient to use often. I recommend getting a flatbed scanner, as the Lexmark X125 seems to have trouble scanning anything smaller than a 4x6 photo. Even with a 4x6 photo, it sometimes gets caught in the rollers, resulting in the picture bending (very frustrating!). Also, as might be expected, the copying function is pretty poor. I have only used it when I need to copy a page, and don't feel like running to Kinkos. Another odd flaw: I changed the stupid black ink cartridge (the display helpfully informed me it was low) but the display never changed. So even now, after changing the cartridge, it still reads "Change Black Ink" No help on this or the scanning issues in the service manual.

I have also heard that Lexmark's customer service for the X125 is pretty poor, though I must admit I have not personally used it yet. The problems I have with my X125 are not serious enough to have to deal with Lexmark on the phone.
