You stated: "...you can turn off the Start Up sound through the Windows Control Panel."

Right, however I might have been a little unclear. What I was refering to is the situation that under normal use soundis turned on and the startup sound is quite okay. However, sometime a game or other application requires to increase it a little bit. efore you know it you forget to set it back to normal. Voila, the computer will scream before you even have a chance to get to any control panel. Also situations change and normal sound may be okay one time and totally wrong next time. I hope this clears it up.

Regarding the batteries, even Duracells die after 1.5 - 2 months of normal use (mouse only). ;-)

Hi!

Re: Windows Start Up Sound
If the Start Up sound is an issue, you can turn off the Start Up sound through the Windows Control Panel.

Re: Batteries
Everyone in our immediate family uses Duracell Alkaline batteries and has had good results with them. We've tried rechargable batteries in the past with mixed results.

Thank you for leaving comments.

... and I am using it for 1 year now (see my review). It has been an overall pleasant experience with one exception. The additional keyboard functionality (i.e. MUTE or Volume) are not available until the computer completely booted up. Since My speakers don't have an easily accessible Mute or Power button, that can be annoying sometimes to have the computer scream at you on startup.

By the way, I recommend to get rechargable batteries with it as the mouse is a battery hog. I usually have to replace (1700mAh) batteries every month. Alkaline will go up to twice as long but still require somewhat frequent replacements. (more on that in my review).
