Whatever changes they make, I hope Epinions stays in business, because my main reason for contributing to this site is the free flow of information it allows.

As the former CEO told me personally:

"they are transparent, we know everything about them"

- what car they drive
- what medicine they need
- what they eat
- where they go for vacation
- what they did for Valentine's
- whatever you want to know

Much of that can be used by a machine to build the profile as you said it.. estimating your monetary situation and more. And there is not a law against it. "Self-regulation of the market", as the government praises it. They want to make a law now that protects your data when the company goes bankrupt. Could be too late for many.
