Inside a fresh new package of Cascade 1-in-1 Action Packs, I found a nice bonus of some Cascade product coupons. In that group of savings was one for a product I've not seen before (or paid any attention to) -- Cascade Plastic Booster 2-in-1.
Description & Purpose
Cascade Plastic Booster 2-in-1 is a companion product to your regular dishwasher detergent, and functions as both a stain and odor remover for plasticware, but also as a cleaner and freshener for your dishwasher in general. Cascade claims it is great for plastic containers, dishes, utensils, and baby cups and bottles.
Cascade Plastic Booster 2-in-1 comes in a red and white, 6.8 oz plastic tube, and is found next to other dishwasher products. The product itself is a thick, white cream, and has a very pleasant and fresh scent -- much like laundry detergent.
Instructions for use can't get any easier -- just completely fill the open dispenser cup (about 3 tablespoons), and fill the main cup with your favorite dishwasher detergent. Run your dishwasher as you normally would. For tough stains, feel free to repeat. For use an as overall dishwasher cleaner and freshener, fill the open cup and run your empty dishwasher on the longest setting to achieve maximum performance, and use at least monthly.
Use care when handling Cascade Plastic Booster 2-in-1 -- it contains benzoil peroxide, and will bleach fabrics. Don't think because it contains benzoil peroxide that it is good for zits -- it's not... Seriously, this stuff can cause skin and eye irritation.
My Thoughts & Uses
Does it work? Yup... pretty darn well. I dug out a few old containers that are all stained and gross-looking, and it did a great job at removing the old stains as well as the fresh stains. I might actually use those old containers again. Cascade Plastic Booster 2-in-1 does a great job on odors, too. Nothing stinks up a plastic container like guacamole, and sometimes the odor lingers after washing. Cascade Plastic Booster 2-in-1 completely zaps the odor and leaves my containers clean and fresh.
I've found this stuff to come in handy with our toddler's sippy cups, too. Sometimes I'll find juice or milk cups in the toy box after they've been cleverly hidden there for a couple of days. Might I say, "yuck?" I've thrown away a couple of cups because they literally stank and still stunk after washing. With Cascade Plastic Booster 2-in-1, I don't need to throw them away anymore.
As far as running this stuff around in an empty dishwasher, I find that an unnecessary waste of water and power, as the product cleans and freshens quite well with regular use. For my dishes and utensils, well I honestly don't notice any difference.
I think the $2.67 price tag is well worth it. You don't have to use it with every load. I don't use it on every load that includes plastic, either... only when I think I need it. If you care about prolonging the life of your containers and keeping your dishwasher in shape at the same time, I highly recommend Cascade Plastic Booster 2-in-1!
