Guitar Strings (Reply to this comment)
by pokerduffer
Very helpful review. I do have a somewhat related question: I was wondering what electric strings were best for hollow body guitars? The high-E .009 Fender XL150 or XL250 strings that sound great on my Fender Telecaster Deluxe sound way too thin and slinky on my Ibanez hollow body. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Alvarez-Yairi dreadnought. Fender super bullets on my Stratocaster. That's if I remember to change them before they break! Great opinion. About the dropped D tuning on your other opinion: I had a friend who could tune his guitar two or three alternative ways. He would make me drop my jaw when I heard some of the sounds he produced. I played standard tuning. Just never experimented much with the alternatives. But, you inspire me!

Have to try switching to the medium because of fret buzz. Gotta confess that I stick with the lights simply because I no longer have much time to play and they're easier on my fingertips.
Excellent editorial. Very informative and most appreciated.

...and Guild D-4, and they give me everything I need for either my flatpicking, or my rather rudimentary finger picking. No particular reason other than habit, I guess.
Good, informative post.

Elixers exclusively on my electric guitars--usually .09 gauge on everything but my Les Paul, and I use .10 gauge on it. They do last longer and maintain their brilliance.
On my acoustics, I use the Martin strings, in the heaviest gauge available. They really sound good in the studio--nothing can match the rich, brilliant tones that Martin supplies.
Good review.
