Pros: A snap to install.
Cons: One moderately sharp edge exposed on larger vehicles.
The Bottom Line: A good rack, easy to install, for not a lot of money.

| ddarch44's Full Review: Barrecrafters SX-12 Sierra Ski Racks |
Bought these last fall for 175 dollars. Installation took less than a half hour. Very simple, very clear instructions. (How often do you hear THAT?)
Our family loves the rack, especially compared to a very expensive dealer ski rack on our previous vehicle. That other rack took superhuman strength to open some times...of course, the worst times, when it was twenty below! This rack, although tight even when unlocked, is easy to open. So far, the key lock has worked without a problem.
We have only loaded up three pairs of skis, so I'm not quite sure how the six it says it holds all squeeze in there. The skis are held firmly in place.
The only negative is on wide vehicles, in order to strap it on, you need to have quite a lot of the metal bracket exposed, and this has a fairly sharp edge. What I did to rectify the situation was buy a short piece of rubber hose at the hardware store, slit it on one side, and place it over it. I'm really surprised the makers allow that piece to be exposed like that.
I'l be interested to see how durable this rack turns out to be. After one winter, though, we like it a lot.
