Let me have a box of Kleenex Please!

Apr 14 '01

The Bottom Line Grab a box of Kleenex, something to hug and get ready to cry, you won't be able to stop once you sit down to any of these movies!

I love to watch Tear-Jerkers, always have. In fact I used to rate a movie by how much it would make me cry.

Lately I have been reading some great epinions on movies I agree would make anyone cry and I realized there are some great Tear-jerkers out there that people didn't include or don't know about. Some movies that weren't big budget films or are hidden tear-jerkers that people might be interested in watching.A few of the movies I will put in are ones that everyone uses, I mean I love each and every movie I have seen on the lists so far. I just am including movies I don't think a large portion of the epinion world has seen.

Now first off I personally always have to have a box of Kleenex or a big handful of napkins at the theater, and a nice drink to make sure and replenish my fluids, so remember no matter what you should make sure to have your vital necessities with you as well!

10. Finding Forrester, I went fighting tooth and nail to see this movie this year, and let me tell you not only was it well acted, written, and directed, but I never cried so hard at a movie that wasn't intentionally a tearjerker! Sean Connery is amazing, and it is definitely a must see for anyone!

9. Here on Earth, Yes this is a teenie bopper movie, yet it is very sad. For anyone who doesn't know about this movie it is about a Rich boy who goes to private school in a small town, and he ends up racing a town boy and running both cars into a diner, starting a fire. Both boys end up being sentenced to work probation working on rebuilding the diner. This movie comes across as a love story, yet late in the movie we learn that one of the main characters has cancer and has a short while to live. From that moment on, the tears will stream down your face, it is not something you can help! As much as I hate to admit it, I love to watch this movie, it shows strength, courage and most of all heart!

8. Thumbilina, Yes I picked a cartoon. I love fairies so for me this is a must see! It was overlooked by many at the box office, and yes it has Gilbert Godfrey as one of the main voices of the movie, but this movie can make anyone cry. When the Fairy Prince gets frozen your heart just wants to break into 2 because you can't help but want to make sure the Fairy Prince and Thumbilina end up together! I think I have seen this movie over 100 times, and I never get tired of watching it.

7. Circle of Friends, Minnie Driver's first movie, which not only has an amazing script, and a wonderful story, but starts Chris O'Donnell and Alan Cummings. This movie is an amazing tale of love, and heartache. You can't help but throw yourself into it and become one with the characters.

6. Free Willy, I don't think I have to say much here, but I mean who didn't cry when Willy went out to sea??? I dare someone to admit you didn't cry!! It is a great film for kids, and parents to watch together. Yes the sequels all stink but the original movie was great and reminded us all to have a little bit of hope.

5. Goodbye Miss 4th of July, Now this is a made for TV movie that was put out by Disney but a very great movie, and an amazing tearjerker! This movie takes place during war-time, when people were immigrating over to America. The family it follows immigrated from Greece after losing a son to the Spanish Influensa. It even introduced a little known star at the time, Chyna Phillips!

4. Anne of Green Gables/Avonlea, Ok you have read the book but have you seen the Disney mini-series? This mini-series followed Anne portrayed by a very young Megan Follows through the trial and tribulations of the young redheaded dreamer. It is a must see for any female, young or old! No one can stop crying when Gil gets sick and Anne goes to take care of him. Colleen Dewhurst also is an amazing asset to this film and a must see! Both the original and sequel are filled with laughter and tears!

3. Steel Magnolias, I don't think there can be much more said about this movie than the fact it is amazing, and with a wonderful cast as well. Sally Fields, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine, Julia Roberts,Tom Skerritt, Darryl Hannah, and a new actor at the time named Dylan McDermott. This is one of the few movies I have actually seen a man cry at! My father at that! Believe me I have never seen my father cry at anything, and to see tears roll down his face makes this a must on my list!

2. Beaches, This has to be on my list for the fact I actually met my pen-pal, who is a very dear and old friend on the board walk of Atlantic City, when we were 9 and 10 years old! This movie has a great cast, a wonderful story, and great music, but you just can't help but cry for the last 30 minutes of the movie! This movie is always extremely important to me and always will be. Jodi, if you read this I love you, and you are the Wind Beneath My Wings!

1. Man in the Moon, this movie is not to be confused for that movie that came out with Jim Carey last year, which is a good movie. Man in the Moon, is a movie based loosely on To Kill a Mockingbird. It is a coming of age story about a young girl, coming of age in the 1950s. She discovers first love, and responsibility, as well as a broken heart, and deep loss of someone she loves. This is a great movie with break out performances of extremely young Reese Witherspoon, and Jason London, who were both being introduced to the world in this movie. This movie also stars Sam Waterson. It is a must see for anyone who loves to cry and watch something entertaining, well written, and well acted all at once. This is a wonderful movie and I suggest you definitely check it out!

These are definitely movies I love to watch over and over. I never can brace myself enough to stop myself from crying. No matter how many times I have seen the movie, I still end up feeling the tears roll down my face! Believe me these are well worth the rental time, and the 2 hours you might spend in front of the TV! Check them out I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
