| bluedot-79's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PSC 2175 Thermal Inkjet Multifunc... |
This Hewlett Packard PSC 2175 Thermal Inkjet All-In-One Printer was something I bought recently to replace my older (and not very well liked) Lexmark X73 All in One Printer. What a world of difference! I just love my new office machine.
The Basics:
--Prints/Copies up to 18 pages per minute (in black) and up to 13 pages per minute (in color)
--100-sheet paper tray
--Resolution up to 4800 x 1200 dpi (on photo paper)
--48 bit color scanning
--8.5x11 scanner area
--Scanner/Copier Resolution: 1200 x 2400 dpi
--Full color and/or black copying (1-50 copies)
--Black ink cartridge: HP 56 ($19.99 at www.hpshopping.com)
--Color ink cartridge: HP 57 ($34.99 at www.hpshopping.com)
--One Touch Operator Panel to easily perform any of this machines functions
--Memory Card slots, which allow you to print directly from your cameras card
What I like:
This printer lives up to HPs reputation in quality. Ive had it for about a month now, and I have virtually no complaints.
The scanner is the quickest that I have ever seen. I would guess that the preview scan shows up on my screen in less than 10 seconds! Even if you have the resolution set very high, it doesnt take very long to get a great quality scan. And, with the capability of 1200x2400 dpi, it really does a great job for photos and such.
The printer is great too. I love how quiet it is. (My old Lexmark was extremely noisy.) And with 18 black and white text pages per minute, it takes no time to print out documents. This machine also produces great photos. As long as it is set on photo, I have not seen any lines of demarcation on my printed photos.
This machine also makes copying a breeze. Just pop in the page you want copied, tell it how many copies to make (up to 50!) and let it go. Youll have your copies in no time. However, because of the expense of ink, I would not recommend buying this machine just for its copying capabilities.
The card reader saves me time and money. It saves me time because its just so darn easy to use. My husband didnt even have to explain how it worked, I just popped in my digital cameras card and went to it. It saves me money because I recently bought a new digital camera ( Kyocera Mita FineCam L3V ) and the card for this camera is different from my old one. Without the built-in card reader, I would have had to purchase an external card reader for my new camera.
Also, hooking this printer to my computer was a cinch. I have Windows XP, and the printer was recognized as soon as I plugged it into my USB port. However, the scanning capabilites were not activated until I used the install disk that came with the unit. That too was a breeze...the disk just walked me right through set-up, and then I was ready to scan.
NOTE:
When I purchased this machine, the salesman at Office Depot told me that this printer only included what he called a starter ink cartridge. He tried to talk me into purchasing additional ink cartridges at the time of purchase. However, having already looked up the details online, I knew that this was not the case. The ink cartridges that come with this machine are the same ml size as the replacements.
What I dont like:
For me, the only major downside to this machine is its size. It takes up almost as much room as my old Lexmark Printer did.
Although, the high price of this machine could also be considered a negative. At close to $200, it is a bit pricey. Plus, the USB cable is not included.
Also, the ink prices are a bit misleading. Although the HP-56 Black ink cartridge retails for $10 less than the standard HP-45 Black ink cartridges (for older HP printers), the ink volume is considerably less. (We are talking 19ml of the 56 verses 42ml of the 45.) HP says that their HP-56 ink provides better quality printing: The HP 56 black inkjet cartridge provides laser-quality black text for home users. Although, I havent really noticed any differences.
Overall Feelings:
I wanted to give myself a little bit of time to get over my new printer joy so I could be more objective about it
and although Ive only had this printer for about a month, it really has been a great office tool so far. As I stated above, it lives up to HPs reputation of superiority in printing. The all-in-one feature is something that I happen to love for my home office, as it saves so much space in my small room. Each of the three features that this machine performs really does an excellent quality job. I have been highly impressed and would recommend this machine to others who are looking for an all-in-one printer.
