I am sure these are all close enough.

I recently rented a 4-cylinder Altima for a couple of weeks (just completed a review of it), and it felt considerably quicker from a stop than our Accord LX. Now, 0-60 times may very well be better for the Accord; I was just referring to my built-in bionic "gravitometer" which found the Altima stronger.

I checked the road test results at various magazines, and it seems that the Accord is if anything a little quicker than the Altima with the automatic. The Mazda is a bit slower, and the Camry a bit slower still, but they all run fairly close together--about a half-second range.

Of course, objective and subjective performance are two different things. The relative coarseness of the Nissan will make it seem quicker than it is.

All in all, it seems my butt-meter wasn't too far off on this one.

Thanks of the comment.

I drove the Accord, Camry, and Altima fours with manual transmissions, and did not note a significant difference. It's possible that with automatics the Altima's advantage is much more perceptible.

I must also admit that I generally am not able to drive competitive vehicles back-to-back, though I try to. I am forced to rely on my memory, which tends to be accurate, but is certainly not flawless.

Given my lack of certainty on this point, I have altered my review.

I would not buy a new Galant, but this can be a very attractive buy after a car hire company is done with it. Currently 03 Galants (4 cyl, non-GTS, of course) are advertised for about 10k.

The Altima’s four is supposedly good for 175 horsepower, but it feels no stronger than the others [Accord's and Camry's] and is considerably less refined.

While the latter is definitely true, to me the 4 in the rental Altima felt quite a bit stronger from a stop than either an Accord's 4 (owned) or Camry's 4 (rented on several occasional)
