Great Mid-range Speakers
Written: Mar 04 '04
I want to say right off the bat that I'm not a speaker guru. First, I don't know what materials are best for making the most accurate sound reproduction. Second, I can't describe in great detail what makes good or bad sound. And thirdly, these speakers are only the second set I have ever owned. All I can say with certainty is that I love my speakers.
I bought the whole set directly from Aperion: 4 bookshelf, 1 center, and a 10" subwoofer. They were shipped promptly, arriving in less than week. Included as a gift were two speaker stands. Once I was ready, I installed the speakers in my music room.
I hooked them up to my DVD player and receiver. They sounded excellent right off the bat, but as recommended by Aperion, I broke them in for a couple days. Then I cranked up the volume, and wow! These speakers can really scream. I had to stop short of shattering my windows.
I think these speakers are a great mid-range value. The set cost me $1500, which I think is too expensive for entry-level users. Also, considering that some speakers sets go for over $10,000, I don't think that Aperion works for audiophiles looking for the ultimate sound. Of course, most people are probably looking for something in between these two extremes.
The Aperion speakers are a great balance of cost to performance. Cheaper sets will sacrifice sound, while very expensive speakers will give smaller performance gains. So these speakers are mid-range, desirable for most users, and I highly recommend them.
