Don't buy an inkjet printer, laser printers are a much better deal.

You make excellent points, especially about the high costs and lack of durability of ink jet printers.

I have solved the problem this way: I have two printers, a laser that I use for almost all my regular daily printing and an ink jet that I use when I really want or need color for some reason.

The savings of using the laser more than pay for the extra cost of having two printers over time and I get the kind of printing I want when I want it. With printers so much cheaper than they used to be ($180 for my laser and about $110 for my ink jet both about two years ago), this is a good solution for me.

Also, you can buy kits to refill ink cartridges. I just bought one. Haven't used it yet, but hopefully that will be a money saver as well.

I'm not quite sure what "scrap-booking" is. If you use the printer for school, or for work, or to print out articles from the internet to share with people or just because it's easier to read a printed document--all these uses don't benefit from color. In fact, whenever I type something, I find it far easier to print out a copy and to edit the paper, with a red pen, than to try to edit the document by reading it on the computer screen.

I also feel that it makes a bad impression in a professional document if it's printed out in less than the highest quality. Laser printed documents always make a good impression.

We own two inkjet printers and really love them.
I use mine mainly for scrapbooking so use a lot of color. The best print setting does use a lot of ink and takes a long time to print, but I usually use the middle range which is very adequate. Even the speedprint is very legible for my purposes in black print. Your review has merit but my experience with inkjet has been favorable. Bev
