I called Infinity to get some information about a pricing discrepency between two identical camera packages, for the Olympus C-5060. Information on their Web site didn't explain a $130 difference in price.
The first time I called, I was told that the $399.99 version had no charger with it and contained a battery which only lasted for 30 minutes and was not rechargable, while the $529.99 version had a 3 hour battery, a charger, and newer software. The sales rep also stated that this camera used two AA batteries, which is false because Olympus ships this unit with a rechargable LiIon battery pack, not AA Lithium disposables.
Sure that I had received an ill-informed rep, I called back later. The second time I was told by a different rep that the difference between the two was that the $399.99 version was *ONLY* the housing for the camera, it didn't have the internal guts, battery, software, etc. The problem with this is that the Web site clearly states that both software and a 32MB xD media card ships with this one.
I came back here and started reading the reviews of Infinity and see that one of the first things they try to push is the fact that the included battery stinks and you need to buy their upgraded one. If it wasn't for the fact that this model DOES NOT have an upgrade option for this battery -- and in fact numerous reports state the BH1 battery is the most powerful battery pack out on the market! *LOL* -- I might have bought that line since it sounds plausable to the uneducated shopper.
So, I just gave them one last chance to get their story right, and I'm told this time that the $399.99 camera was just the camera by itself, fully functioning, but without any cables, software, or media (again, their Web page states otherwise).
I'd stay away as far as possible from them.
Oh, and let me add the INSANE mark-up on accessories that Infinity carries. Their suggested upgrade for storage, an Olympus 128MB xD card, was $150. Olympus will sell you this card direct from their Web site for $64.
