A good review, esp. about the styling (Reply to this comment)

As someone who worsk as a professional designer (of buildings and not products, thought there are parallels) I couldn't agree more about the X3's styling. It seems that BMW should have designed thi one first, as the X5's comes across so much more coherent. Once Hyundai copied the X5's rear window I thought for sure BMW would have made a mid-model alteration.

I drive a compact SUV (a Ford Escape) and while I've fallen victim to the SUV craze, I can't really see why someone looking for sporty performance would buy an X3; the 325xi wagen seems to make so much more sense. Better mileage, all wheel drive, just as nice an interior and the BMW panache. Now that wagons have been out of favor for awhile, I think the wagen is a way to make an anti-statement while having the BMW name at the same time. (And still have lots of cargo-carrying space!)

Very nice review here. I enjoy your reviews thoroughly.

I agree with you, the X3 is a true disappointment from BMW. It looks cheap from the outside and feels cheap on the inside. It screams "I can't afford an X5 but have to have a BMW at all costs." (Remember the 3.18ti?) There are much better choices out there from Lexus, Volvo and others.

I test drove the X3 and a member of my family actually owns one (I can't afford an X5 but have to have a BMW type.) I would never trade an X3 for my XC90. The X5 is very nice, on the inside and out but this thing is hideous.

One problem: this particular review existing before the website did.

Sorry you don't like my conclusions.

How about showing me how it's done by writing some top quality reviews yourself?

Long-winded hit piece (Reply to this comment)

The review read like a long-winded hit piece nit-picking away and criticizing everything about the vehicle like a little girlie-man. Really, peel away the wining and it's a thinly-veiled advertisement for a web site.

I have given numerous positive reviews to SUVs that make sense. This one does not.

Anyone for whom price doesn't matter should buy a more expensive SUV than this one. So the X3's price does matter. Also, there aren't many people who totally ignore vehicle prices. Attention to relative prices isn't simply a matter of not having money. And BMWs are not all bought by people who pay no attention to prices.

As for fluff and dealer mark-up, that has no bearing unless I'm discussing a price ABOVE the sticker price. Which I am not, because as far as I know dealers are not selling X3s above sticker price.

Frankly, this comment makes even less sense to me than the X3 does. You love BMWs, rationalizing away whatever you don't initially like about them, and dislike my review because it's not positive. The rest is fluff.

Finally, this review has been read by hundreds of people. I expected more comments like yours by now. Their absence suggests that few people find the X3 appealing. This one's not flying.

Minimal information with maximal bias on X3 (Reply to this comment)

Why an anti-SUV person is doing SUV reviews is mysterious to me. This reviewer bases a great deal of his opinions on price, which is deceptive and actually not as important an issue to people considering this car. A person interested in a BMW is not also going to be interested in a Cadillac or an Infiniti! You buy a BMW for its revolutionary styling (I have hated all of BMW's latest models and have grown to appreciate them with time) and excellent performance. Finally, any car from any maker you look at upon release will be over-priced due to fluff and dealer mark-up because of the lack of supply. It is thus deceptive to talk about the X3's $47k price tag.
