Do it right the first time, the longer you stay the more you pay!Apr 16 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line There is a college for everyone, you just have to do the work. When I first came to college, I had it all planned out. I wasn't going to let my jaded academic past stop me from succeeding in college, especially because I was finally in art school (something I had looked forward to for a long time). The trick was I had to pass all of my classes because I couldn't afford not too. This was something I was not accustomed to, so I was in for a challenge. My first semester I worked my butt off just trying to keep my head above water. I did well in my art classes, but the academics hurt me. In the end I got a 2.8 GPA which was better than I had done in the past, but not good enough. I kept on working and improving my prioritizing skills until I reached a GPA of 3.8 my Sophomore year. This was the pinnacle of my success in college. I had to learn a few important things my Freshman year in order to succeed. I started to make lists all the time ( and I stuck to them) this helped me to prioritize my daily plans. I gave up any thoughts of extra activities my first semester so that I was able to concentrate on my work more and develop good habits. I also finished all of my academic requirements before my Senior year which freed up a lot of time to concentrate on my art work. Finishing my academics early was one of the best choices I made. It was especially easy because my school offered short winter and summer sessions were I could complete a usual 3 month long class in a just a few weeks over winter break. I just have to say that "bad" students can become "good" students if they have the dedication and something to work for. For me it was the long time goal of going to art school which I reached and completed mainly because I footed the expensive bill for college. This alone made me respect the education I was getting because it was being paid for out of my own thin pockets. I think that if I could do it anyone can. |
