Ease of Use:
Pros:fairly inexpensive, scans OK
Cons:misleading specifications, color calibration could be better
The Bottom Line: Look for another scanner that will give you the highest resolution AND 36-bit color, NOT the highest resolution OR 36-bit color.
It's pretty clear that a bit of deception was involved in marketing this scanner. Before I made my purchase, I looked at the specs for several scanners and chose this one based on the information printed on the box. Silly me. The specs say "36 bit color; 600x1200 dpi optical resolution" and that's what I thought I was buying. Things were fine until I needed to use the scanner at it's highest optical and color resolution ( I needed to scan some rare photos for archival purposes, i.e. get every bit of resolution I possibly could and not throw away *any* data.) That's when I discovered what the information on the box didn't reveal. They don't tell you that the scanner won't scan using the highest resolution AND 36-bit color. You have to choose between scanning at the highest resolution using 24-bit color OR scanning at a lower resolution using 36-bit color. It probably wouldn't make that much of a difference to most people, but if I had known that particular detail before making my purchase, I probably would've chosen a different scanner.
