| mrs-j's Full Review: Tupperware 6-Piece Classic Sheer Midgets Set |
Recently a coworker started selling Tupperware. As I browsed through her catalog, I was fascinated by a couple of different items, the Lunch n' Things container and the 6-Piece Classic Sheer Midgets Set. So naturally, I bought both.
About the 6-piece Midgets Set
Tupperware sells these handy little containers in sets of six. They come with the six clear bottoms and six dark blue Tupperware plastic lids that seal firmly.
The clear containers are made from hard plastic. They display markings for ounces (1, 1.5 and 2 oz.) on one side and milliliters (30, 45 and 60 ml) on the other side. They look for all the world like miniature little shot glasses. My husband remarked that they looked like mini "specimen cups", which unfortunately I now think of every time I look at them.
Still, these are functional little containers and they are useful for just about everything.
Uses for Tupperware Midgets
You know how when you buy prescription medication from the mail order prescription company they come in the big honking bottles that hold 90 little eensy teeny pills? No? Well I do. Happens to me all the time. I get 90 Zyrtec tablets rattling around in a bottle that could easily hold 500 of them. I hate it, because I carry my allergy medicine in my purse and I can't spare the room for the huge prescription bottle. Enter the Tupperware Midget containers - I fill one up with my allergy medicine and put it in my purse, confident that the lid will hold and that it will be within reach and more importantly, won't take up half of the space in my purse.
Or another dilemma common in our house: Various supplies rolling around in the bottoms of drawers. My husband had a bunch of very small nails that he uses for hanging pictures. They used to lie in the bottom of our tool box, but now they're held in a Midget container.
But I know what you're thinking. These are Tupperware containers! What about food? Well, I am happy to report that Midgets are unbelievably useful in the kitchen as well. The markings come in handy especially well when it comes to portioning out salad dressing. Most dressings are listed at 30ml for a single serving on the nutritional information. (At least, most of my dressings are.) When I fix my lunch for work, I just pour the dressing up to the 30ml line and I know exactly what I'm getting calorie-wise. The clear containers are perfect for measuring liquids.
And as I wrote earlier, they are perfect shot glasses. In a pinch when we couldn't find our shot glass while we were mixing a couple of White Russians for a party, we used one of the Midget containers, certain that we were getting one ounce of liqueur in the drinks.
And it's not just for measuring things, it's also for just storing condiments in general. From salad dressing to ketchup, Midget containers are the perfect size for packing condiments in lunches. I hate slimy sandwiches, so when I pack a turkey sandwich, I put a dollop of mustard and mayonnaise in a single Midget container. I mix them up at the lunch table and spread them on my sandwich when I'm ready to eat it and it's just perfect.
They are also perfect for "mix your own" salad dressings. I often make a homemade vinaigrette dressing by pouring about an ounce of red wine vinegar into the Midget. Then I add a half ounce of extra virgin olive oil, some salt, pepper, oregano, and any other spices I feel like including. I seal the lid on top and take it to the office. Just before I eat my salad, I just shake the Midget vigorously and then open it and pour. It's some of the best salad dressing I've ever had, and the combinations and possibilities are endless.
Cleaning
Tupperware Midgets are made of rigid plastic and would probably be safe on the upper level of the dishwasher. However, they are so small that they could fall easily down to the bottom and possibly warp or melt. I wash all of ours by hand. They clean easily, and oil doesn't stick to them. Just a rinse under hot soapy water with a sponge, and they're clean.
Storage
We only have about three Midgets left in the kitchen for use with our food and for my lunches. They store easily in one of my cabinets. Their miniature size and stackable lids means that they take up almost no room.
Summary
I have yet to find a product from Tupperware that hasn't lived up to and far exceeded my expectations. The 6-Piece Classic Sheer Midgets Set is no exception. These are tiny little storage containers that are so incredibly useful, in a way that only Tupperware could imagine. Everything, including the markings, the easy peel off lid and the clear plastic, combines to make these extremely useful. If you can't find a slew of uses for these little guys, you just aren't thinking hard enough.
I've already asked my coworker about ordering another set, along with some other Tupperware goodies that I saw in her catalog last week. Tupperware is addictive!
