Read the contract and listen carefully when the sales person explains the terms to you. I have 3 phones from Suncom which I use in my business. When I purchased the plan they had very competitive rates in the Augusta GA market but there was a clause in the contract which I find unacceptable and quite dishonest. The contract has what is called an "evergreen clause" which automatically renews your contract for a year unless you advise them in writing one month before the contract anniversary date. If you do not send them a letter and later you wish to change companies there is a $200 fee for release from the contract.
Every other cellular company I have done business with has had a fee if you cancel during the first year but they all then require only 30 day notice in order to drop the service after you have completed the year.
The sales people are supposed to explain this clause to you and they may all do it, but in my case it was done in a way that did not register with me.
If you use Suncom be aware of this clause and make your decision with it in mind. I will personally cancel the service as soon as I can and will not consider Suncom again as long as they have this policy.
