Yeah, John Elway's Quarterback was just the same way. There was a play called lookie where the reciever ran a fade pattern and always was deeper than any defender.

it was a great game. Definitly the best on the NES. Not that it had much competition. Ten Yard Fight wasn't all that great. I do believe Marino and Montana were able to throw very quickly and accurately. I could be wrong. However I remember there being a play with San Fran that was unstopable. The tight end or running back(I think running back because I'm not sure if they had tight ends in the first Tecmo Bowl) would cut into the center of the field. Montana would throw and regardless of coverage it would be complete each time. This is a big deal since if there was any coverage at all it was almost always intercepted. The game wasn't exactly realistic, but it was fun.

The first very first football game I ever played and even taught me to understand the real game.
I still prefer to play this version over the newer ones.
