Years ago, if I saw an ad that told me that you get 12 cds for the price of 1, I would have thought that the advertiser was crazy. But what I found out was, it isn't so free once you decide to listen to the ad and join.
BMG is a music store which has a plethora of cds to offer. The deal is you get 11 cds free with an obligation to buy only 1 in the next 2 years. I thought this was a much better deal than Columbia House which gives you an obligation to buy 5 at full price. So I decided to join.
After I got my first 7 days, I bought the one that I was obligated to buy and then I got the other 4. Most smart people would end it there, especially since the cds go for about $18.00 which is expensive compared to the prices you would pay for Cds at Circuit City. Unfortunately, I decided to stick to it and I have been buying about 5 cds a month. The reason for this is the deals that they offer. Once you buy the one cd, they give you special deals like, buy one cd and get 3 free or all cds are $2.99. The deals that they offer are great and it causes me to buy and buy music from them. The downside of it is the amount of shipping and handling they apply to the order.
I know a little something about shipping because I often ship items to customers on EBAY. If you are sending an item first class, or priority, it would usually cost about $3.95 for one and if you were buying like 5 cd's, the shipping would be about $7.00. Not with BMG. You would think that because they have so many customers and put the prices of their cds so high, that they would give an incentive to the buyer and charge them an additional maybe .50 per item for shipping. Instead, they charge about $3.00 per cd that you are buying. So if you were getting in ont he deal buy 1, get 3 free, you could easily be paying about $40.00 after the tax and shipping and handling is applied. But still I can't quit buying from them.
I think the reason for that is the convenience. The site is easy to navigate and you can take as much time as you want, save things for later, so you don't forget what you want and they keep you updated about your order. Although they send me their newest catalogs per month, I can go on-line an order the cds from their large directory of cds. They have all different genres and sometimes even go beyond cds for people who are looking for other things. I think it is kind of cool because they allow you to buy a cd and pay for it later and then ship the cd to you in like 4 days. It keeps amazing me how fast I get my orders. They have a featured selection that they post each month and if you do not reply, they send it to you automatically. If you ope the box accidently, you can contact BMG customer Service, and they will send you a postage paid sticker for you to return it, which I found it a couple of months ago. That seems kind of real to me.
Recently I have had a little change of heart though. I have continued purchasing from them, but when I receive the cd, the box is broken, cracked or even chipped so much, that the cd case won't close. To me, if you are paying $18.00 per cd, you should get the best quality items. But that is just me.
Besides that, you get the option of paying on line when you get your bill and you get points which equal to a free cd once you get 18 points which could be about every 4 or 5 orders. Not bad, right. Also if you refer friends, you get like 5 free cds and though you have to pay shipping, you get those 5 cds for about $20.00.
I am not completely satisfied with their service, though the deals are kind if cool, but I think that if they are really trying to give an incentive to their customers, they would cut the shipping costs a little because to me, that's how they make their money. But overall, I would definitely recommend BMG.
