DVDs Vs. VHS (Reply to this comment)
by Destinys-Child
In regards to price I have actually noticed that a lot of DVD prices are cheaper than the VHS. Most places lowered the prices of the DVDs to intice people to buy them.
My DVD player was probably my best investment in a long time. I just got the first season of The X-Files and the quality is better than it was watching it on the TV. Not to mention the PC game that came with it as well.
Good Review

Sweet Cece:
You are wise. What I did was to make a list of my all-time favorite movies (like Casablanca) and say, "Whenever I can save up and get one, I will", and that is what I have done. One at a time. DVDs cost 2-3 times as much as VHS, but if you look at the big picture, they are going to last a lifetime. VHS tapes, on the other hand, while they can be replaced, will in time, I fear, go the way of the 8-track tape. When they do I'm gonna have a big box to unload on somebody. Keep your winning ways going.

You're Right (Reply to this comment)

I recently won a DVD as a prize from a personal shopping web site, and I purchased Casablanca as my first DVD to compare it to my VHS version.
The DVD completely blows it out of the water. I have never seen such a clear and crisp picture.
Because of the cost factor, I really do not see myself purchasing as many DVD titles as I would VHS titles. It is much cheaper to purchase used VHS from Blockbuster or other areas, than DVD.
So, I'll save my DVD collection for my very special favorites and then not worry about the rest.

OKAY! (Reply to this comment)
by Dr_Steph
You convinced me. :)
Seriously, though, it's not just a matter of buying the DVD player. Now you have to buy the DVD movies, too.
I know I'm going to take the plunge - I'm just not ready yet. I'll stick with my DVD player on my iMac for now.
Great review, Ed! :)
