| gbtynan's Full Review: ACRONIS True Image 7 |
I had a failing hard drive in a notebook. I created a disk image using Acronis 7.0 onto an external HD using a USB1.1 interface. Then swapped the internal hard drive in the notebook for a new one, and rebooted using the recovery software from a rescue CD that Acronis creates. Even though you have no Operating System on your computer, the rescue CD takes over and handles the restore function. The restore process itself was very very smooth, with no errors, crashes or annoying tweaking. When it was done the notebook booted up EXACTLY as it had before the restore process. There was zero left to do. It was as if the old hard drive had never existed. The new hard drive now had an exact copy of what the old one had. The O/S (Win XP Pro) and all data, settings etc restored precisely as they had been.(took 9 hours to restore the disk image with a relatively slow USB1.1 interface and a big capacity drive, but so what? - just sleep through it!)
I strongly recommend this product if you are faced with the scary task of swapping out a hard drive!
