Let me start by saying that in the last 8 yrs. My husband and I have lived in 6 different apartments. Every time we move we have to clean the carpets. This has meant renting bulky machines at ridicules prices. So when we moved last summer and the Hoover Widepath was on sale for $199 we went out and bought it.

I was thrilled with the results that we got. The Hoover cleaned the carpet so well that they looked better than they had when we moved in. It cleaned not only the everyday soil of the high traffic areas but also the spots that had been accumulating from previous tenants. A few areas required going over more than once but this was very old carpet.

My husband used the machine when we moved out that day but since then I have used it myself. I find it very easy to operate. You simple put soap and water into the first chamber (there are clear instructions) then it is sucked up into the second chamber. Both buckets are easily removed and replaced for easy filling and emptying.

Also the upright shape of this cleaner makes it easy to handle. It maybe a bit heavier than the canister variety so you do have to provide some push power. However when you empty it you only need to carry a small light weight bucket. Also you do not have to drag the canister around behind you everywhere.

I have only had two issues with this machine. First of all it is very big. It is something you definitely have to make room for especially if you live in a smaller apartment. Also I have noticed that If I move it around when it is not in use a small amount of water leaks out on to the floor even when both buckets are empty. I avoid this problem by leaving it in one spot when I’m not using it.

I defiantly enjoy this machine. My new apartment had brand new carpet (and we are staying awhile) so I use the Hoover to go over the high traffic areas from time to time.
Also I use it for spots that are tracked on to the carpet by my four year old son. No matter how hard I try I can not keep him off the carpet with his shoes on. It is great to have the Hoover around whenever I need it.
