What finally got rid of my adult acne
by katiemccann | Apr 17 '01
If other acne treatments have failed you, you may want to give a glycolic-acid based line a try.

Besides acne, does skin type make a difference? (Reply to this comment)
by dollarvoter
Others have asked if this works for sensitive skin, also I'd like to know if your skin is oily or dry--will it work for either of these? My skin is dry but acne-prone so many products are too drying, making matters worse. I've used some glycolic acid product with an unknown % of it with no results on my teenage-now-adult acne.

Will it work with my super sensitive skin...? (Reply to this comment)
by Cyanne
I have *ultra* sensitive skin. I can't change detergent, soap, or suntan lotion without breaking out into a full-body rash that averages about $120 of pills and topical creams to get rid of every time I break out. Lately my skin's been on a rampage. Before this I'd break out with one or two zits and lately my skin's just awful.

I have been using this skin care line for a number of years, on the recommendation of my teenaged nephew (*LOL*, who would have thought...) This is the ONLY skincare line that works for me, like a miracle. Soft, smooth, clear skin!!

The BASICS are 1) the Glycolic Cleanser 2) Clarifying Treatment, 3) Clearz-it, 4) Glycolic Renewal Gel 5) Super Hydrate There is also a new Acne Wash that I haven't tried, but it doesn't have the glycolic acid in it, and I feel that that ingredient was KEY to the success!
I am also addicted to the Triple Glycolic Mask.

** For those of you concerned about REDNESS, I love the Fading Fluid. **

For those of you concerned about the PRICES, CHECK EBAY!!! A lot of people auction items they don't use but bought in promotional deals, or sell things they have too many of. Easy to use, and they have excellent prices on new, unopened SSC products. You can search easily by entering: serious skin care ___________, where the blank is the name of the specific product you are looking for, but be sure to put a checkmark in the "search descriptions" box too. It will come up with all of the auctions that contain that product.

Definitely helps with redness. basically, it gets rid of your upper (dead) layer of skin... so it will take off the red splotches and acne scars. My skin looks great now, even without makeup.

Well, the acid can be a bit drying while your skin is adjusting to it. A good moisturizer is essential (and I find that now that my acne is cleared up, I can use much better moisturizers now without breaking out, and so overall my skin is in much better condition).
Here's a moisturizer I recommend:

And one I don't:

Another Glycolic Option.... (Reply to this comment)

Wonderful review!!! For those readers who may want a drugstore version of a good, properly formulated glycolic acid preparation, check out the "Alpha Hydrox" line in the red and white boxes. Great stuff!

Glycolic acid works the best for me. My dermatologist actually gave me a cleansing product that had glycolic acid as the main ingredient and it works great! I will have to check this product out and compare the cost to what I'm currently using.
Thanks for the tip!

Happy Writing!
