How To Interest Your Child In Fishing...
Apr 17 '01
The Bottom Line If you want to get your child interested in fishing, get him or her a toy fishing pool and introduce to ALL the joys of the sport.
Aaaaah....the fishing season. Going to the lake with my family, the picnic lunch, the boat, the tackle, the rods, the bait, the stringer, the life jackets, the chairs, the blanket, the insect repellant, the sunscreen.....WOW, all of that to go fishing?!!
When I was a boy my Dad took me to my uncle's pond on the farm and I had my first experience fishing.
My first pole was a modest stick about as tall as me. It had a nylon string tied to the end with a bobber strategically placed above a little hook. My job? Catch all the brim in the lake (should I choose to accept it). Start close to the shore and work your way out on different casts, when your bobber goes under, that means you're getting a bite. Give your pole a sharp jerk upwards and you'll catch your fish. Well, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't but that's the nature of the "beast".
Trout was my next experience. Wading the cold, icy streams in Pennsylvania the middle of April will determine if you're a "real" trout fisherman or not.
From a amall farm pond to trout streams to lakes, rivers and deep sea fishing, it is one of the best joys of life.
My wife's father took her fishing, we have taken our children fishing, and we all love to fish....
