Good reading material.. (Reply to this comment)

I was drawn to this because I was scanning your profile page trying to find any sort of semblance of reason behind you NH'ing a few of my reviews awhile ago. Still haven't found it.

Good essay though.

then I predict the resurrection of "The Neighborhood Watch" or another group like them.

If you don't know who they are, then you are fortunate.

a little angry. If you dislike the site leave and quite stirring up so much trouble. Other wise get back to former program of high quality writings.

Reason for SH rating (Reply to this comment)
by xeno3998

First of all, any claims that I am 'revenge rating' like mangiotto would make will result in me blocking you, so don't bother with that sh*t, because I consider most of your past work to be VH material and have nothing against any members on this site.

To move on to my point, your 'opinion' seems to be more fitting for 'Things to Know About Epinions.com" than GCOE. Even then though, this editorial would still get no more than SH because it's pointless. You don't tell me anything I didn't already know, besides what Epinions.com thinks of the 'abuse' on their own site. Half of this 'opinion', which is supposed to contain YOUR OPINION, is a letter from Epinions.com Help Center.
Passing something they wrote to you off as an editorial, or at least a good portion of one, isn't really giving your OPINION on anything. Even after reading this, I STILL don't know what your COMMENTS are on the site, instead, I know that we have 'abusers' here, and that tickets for padding will no longer be given...woo hoo for Kenny-777! :p

You get SH also, because of the run-on sentences you have everywhere in this 'opinion' of yours. It's not tiggert-bad, but it's still unacceptable for a member with as much recognition as you.

Please, don't write more than one editorial on this topic unless your's is going to be radically different. I barely SHed this.

That Old Kitchen Situation (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
I've just received an anonymous e-mail accusing you of being a pot calling the kettle black. I, personally, see none of this so far but will be checking into it and hoping that it's a mistake.

Having recently been accused of being a stalker, I know how it is to be flamed. Until I check things out better, I try to think in terms of their being two sides to every story. I want to be fair about this.

In the meantime, I just wanted to tell you that this is very well-written. I, too, would like to see Epinions.com continue to grow and prosper. Sometimes, though, one can go overboard when it comes to tattling. I think you have to examine yourself and see if you're coming too close to fitting into this category.

And you also have to remember that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Make sure that you're doing all you can to be on the up-and-up with everything you write.

I'm still planning to participate in the two write-offs you came up with, but I'm not sure if I'll do either before taking my vacation from the site to concentrate on other things. :o)

My rating... (Reply to this comment)

is hopeful ... this really would only be helpful (except for reprinting the letter from Epinions) if Epinions reconsiders....either that, or allow reviews to be deleted by community pressure, not just blocked.

I wonder... (Reply to this comment)
by caradoc
The whole issue with plagiarism can be covered by the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, or DMCA, which grants rather broad powers to the owner of the copyright (in this case, the author) to *shut down* websites which contain copyrighted information.

I wonder what would happen if a number of Epinions authors whose works had been plagiarized smacked Epinions with a series of lawsuits designed to make Epinions care about their violators...
