Re: Tires? (Reply to this comment)
by drive571
Unfortunately, I didn't catch the letter rating of the xA's tires. That could certainly be part of the steering/tracking problem, although the fact that they're only 185-width probably doesn't help either...
These cars are certainly creating a controversy with their styling, although that's probably just what Toyota's American branch had in mind to get Scion in the public eye here. I actually really liked the looks of the xB, but still, it was more of a "I love seeing other people driving them, but wouldn't want to be seen in one personally" thing. That makes sense, right?
I think the amusing part of all this is that, since both Scions were designed to be sold as Toyotas in the Japan market, they weren't originally styled with the intention of creating controversy. The Japanese market is awash in far more oddly-styled small cars, even from Toyota itself (If you really want weird, check out the cars from their home-market youth brand, WiLL). They also aren't as hung up on vehicles looking large and powerful... which I think is great, given our nation's oddly Freudian obsession with trucks and SUVs.
Anyway, sorry I can't answer your question about the tires... hopefully I'll remember to take a look when I get a chance to test-drive the new tC!

Great Review (Reply to this comment)

I was surprised at the space difference in the xB and xA, the xA felt much more cramped than the ECHO and the xB, much bigger.

well -researched and -written. In re: the Xb, the Ms was looking at the auto edition of "Consumer Reports" last night and announced that she had a new "least-favorite car." I said, "Oh, the Scion Xb, right?" She was impressed...
If you're interested in making your Epinions reviews look a bit more polished through the use of italics and bolding, here's the official word http://www.epinions.com/help/faq/show_~faq_writing#011 . It tends to look a bit better than ALL CAPS.
CHeers, and keep up the good work.

Tires? (Reply to this comment)

I wonder if a decent set of H- or even V-rated tires would have made the turn-in response more precise on this car, as well as enable better straight-line tracking. Did you take a peek at the tires on the model you drove?
Nice review!
