Recently, those who've come familiar with my writing, might have noticed, I'm starting to slack in my work. Recently I've been spending more time away from epinions, and doing what I love to do. What got me into the writing game, song writing. So, I decided to share a little information on inspiration for song writing. Techniques First In the world, there are many people, with many different talents. The talent of song writing, is a number of talents, that not everyone has. Not everyone can write a song, and not a lot of people, really care too. Though I suspect the unwillingness to write, is the only reason that not everyone can write a song. Where Does The Willingness To Write, Play Into Writing? Well, song writing, just like poem writing, is usually an exposure of the writers feelings, to everyone who reads, or hears it. That's where the willingness to write comes in, if you're hesitant to write your feelings on paper, then chances are, you won't write a very good song. If you're hesitant to put something down, you'll ultimately end up editing your song, until it is nothing. Is This Unwillingness To Write, Harmful? Yes it is, it is very harmful. It can turn a great song, into an emotionless writing. In my opinion, all great artists come up with great songs through the emotion they express with their words. Korn, for instance, I don't like their songs, but it's more because of the guitar music and their style of singing. Some of their songs though, are so emotionally hitting, that I can't help but listen to them. Or bone thugs n harmony, for another example. I think their greatest song was "Tha Crossroads(D.J. Uneek Remix of the Remix)" which is not available to many people. Anyway, after they suffered a number of losses, including their mentor Eazy-E, and Krayzie's cousin, they went into the studio and put down "Tha Crossroads(D.J. Uneek Remix)". You could really feel their pain, through their lyrics, and how they perform the song. 6 years later, and it seems "Tha Crossroads" is a song, that I still hear playing, after I lose someone dear to me. Why is this? Because bone went into the studio, and let their emotions hit pure and hard, and didn't bother editing their song. Finding Inspiration When writing a song, it can either be very easy to find inspiration, or it could be a little harder. It depends on what ever you feel stronger about. You can look to the media, and major happenings in the world. Whether it be past, or present. For example, how do you feel about Columbine? Or how about Santana? What do you think of the media blaming rockers and rappers, for the school shootings? The last 2 songs that I wrote, I took inspiration from all of the above, and the following. I addressed racism, the feeling of inferiority, and the "human rights" which our nation talks about so much. I also address the issue of freedom, and other things which I feel strongly about. Not only that, but what I put down, usually stays how it is, except for a few minor corrections every once in awhile. I in no way, attempt to extract from the emotional out put of the song, as it might ruin the song totally. In Addition To Inspiration, What Do I Need? In addition to inspiration, you need patience, and a little talent with working with words. Let me explain this in detail, as much as possible. Pay attention, and take notes, I might decide to test you on this later :) j/k. 1. Patience. Why patience, you ask? It's simple, really simple in fact, so simple I don't know why I have to explain it, but here it is. When writing a song, you can't always finish a song, when you just start writing. Sometimes it can take up to a year, to finish the lyrics to a song. The inspiration might be there, but the lyrics will take long to form in your head. So therefore, don't try and finish a song, let it finish itself. This is where the talent comes in. 2. Talent. Everyone knows, that working with things like songs and poems, isn't a easy affair. It's not just something you go out, and say hey I am going to write a poem today. It's more like something, that just hits you. A feeling to write, which is almost undeniable. When you have the talent I am talking about, the poems/songs will usually form totally in your head, and the feeling will only be to put it down on paper. I hope that this article has been of help to you, signing off for now, stormwolf17. |
