| zboiing's Full Review: Toshiba 30HF83 30" TV |
The Toshiba 30HF83 is a very good TV set with an excellent picture quality (probably thanks to my NAD DVD player and the monster video component cable).
This TV has a very good product/quality ratio : HDTV ready, 1080i or 480p for viewing DVD, 16:9, progressive scan and the price is now VERY good.
There were two other TV set for which I was to choose :
- Sony KV30HS510 : the picture was very good but if you are OK to spend more money (add 600$) just to own a Sony and have the same specifications, that's your choice...
- Samsung DynaFlat TXN3098WHF : the picture was less beautiful than the Toshiba (more snow-covered picture) and there are less audio/video input than the Toshiba.
After plugging my DVD player and all appropriate cables, I put "Lord of the rings" just to check at last the picture quality : holly... !!!!! Picture is so smooth, so shiny, so bright, so rich, so clear ! Armours look like armours, rocks look like rocks. You can feel to be in the movie ! An impression of depth is felt. It's breathtaking !!!! Trust me.
Standard film (VCR), are correct too. But picture quality, while watching digital cable, is not so good (in fact very bad sometimes). This is because of the too much MPEG compression that certain channel apply.
When watching conventional TV picture format (4:3) in 16:9, the Theater Wide 1 mode is very good. Picture is a little curved on the left and right sides but its very hard to notice it when watching movie. That appears only if you watch channel like CNN with the scrolling bar which is at the bottom or the middle of the screen.
Sound is good. When its well adjusted, Cyclone sub-woofer System delivers rich bass. But the SRS 3D system, hides some sound from time to time. Thats why I disable this option. Thats the problem for some sound processing (for my part).
Something bad with the Front Panel Lock option : power button (in the front panel) still works even if the lock option is set to on. My old RCA 27 managed this option correctly. If you have kids, its annoying.
Remote Control is not too big, not too small. You can even light it to see it in the night.
Unfortunately it cannot control my DVD player. Perhaps the model I have (T513) is too recent.
