| wackychimp's Full Review: Sony Digital Photo Printer DPP-EX5 Dye Sublimatio... |
I got this printer for my wife for Christmas because she loves to scrapbook but doesn't really have the time to sit down, select a bunch of photos, upload them to an online printing service, wait for them to be sent, etc. She wanted to be able to see a photo on the hard drive, click print and have the photo. This printer does that very well. The prints (as stated everywhere else) are photolab quality. No tiny little dots to mess up everything.
My one problem is that all of the cool extras that this printer can do for you (print stickers, calendars, cards etc.) are NOT accessible when printing from a computer via USB. Sony tells you this NO WHERE. In order to use these features, you have to hook the printer up to your TV or something, dump your photos to a memory stick (if you have one) and use the little buttons and menus on top of the printer. There is no software that you can download (or that comes with it) that will let you do this from your computer. Again THIS LIMITATION IS COVERED NO WHERE (not even the manual -- I called Sony tech support and they finally confirmed it.)
I suppose this isn't really an issue if you have a Sony camera and Sony computer.... which it seems to me is something that Sony is trying to force you into with their products. They work great together but if you want to use them with non-Sony products... you're only going to get the basic functionality.
