Science Fiction: What a Great GenreApr 19 '01 Write an essay on this topic.The Bottom Line The Science fiction genre as brought many great films to us. It is very hard to narrow it down but I will do my best. Here they are! 10.)INDEPENDENCE DAY- Although I was not very crazy about this film when I saw it in theatres, I did really enjoy it a lot more when I saw it on video because I watched it a lot closer and picked up stuff that I had missed before. It really is a great film with an awesome alien scene, probably one of my favorites. 9.)THE FLY- This movie is very different then most sci fi films. It stars Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis as a couple in love on the verge of creating a teleport machine. Awesome special effects and Goldblum does a very good job as the fly. Great ending, but may be a little to gory for some. 8.)PLANET OF THE APES- A great movie that takes place in the distant future. It is about a team of men who get lost in space and finally land in the future on an unknown planet that is inhabited by talking apes. Great special effects and make-up. Charlton Heston is good in the lead role. 7.)CONTACT- A great science fiction film that has a religious twist too it. Great performances by Jodie Foster and Matthew MaConahey. A movie about making contact with another planet which you probably figured out from the title, but probably not what you would expect. 6.)TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY- Arnold's best film by far, this is a great sci fi film with a lot of great action too. The first one is also a good film but doesn't even compare to this one. The special effects in this are the some of the best on film. It's a must see for everyone. 5.)STRANGE DAYS- A very good movie about a man that sells the drug of the future, a device that lets you see something and pretty much anything you can think of, through the eyes of the person that did it. Has a very good plot and is very entertaining. 4.)FREQUENCY- A farely new film that stars Dennis Quaid as a firemen who dies in a fire when his son is at a young age. Years later his son finds an old radio type unit that lets him communicate with his dad several days before he was killed. Great sci fi film with a very interesting and thought provoking plot. 3.)A CLOCKWORK ORANGE- a Stanley Kubrick masterpiece about a gang of misfits who go around causing trouble. the movie is mainly about what happens to the main character, Malcolm MacDowell when he is caught and rehabilitated. The movie is very disturbing with lots of violence, It used to be rated X when it first came out but that changed several years later. 2.)BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY- Now I know I shouldn't include all three of these as one but to me it's all just one long story anyway's. This is the best trilogy ever made. It stars Micheal J.Fox and Christopher Lloyd as a young teenager and a crazy scientist that travel in a time machine. Stephen Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis put together a masterpiece when they did these films. 1.)TWELVE MONKEYS- Easily the best sci fi film and probably my second favorite movie of all time. This movie is also about time travel but in this film the purpose is to stop a plague that destroys humanity. Stars Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis in their best roles to date.
