For the last fifteen months my non-verbal autistic son has been receiving feeding therapy to help him learn to use a straw and drink from a cup. A feeding team consists of an Occupational Therapist (OT), Developmental Pediatrician, Dietician and Family Counselor. There are home visits as well as clinic based. They incorporate swinging on various apparatus and bouncing on large balls, jumping on trampoline and into ball pits and beanbags. Slowly new foods get introduced on a weekly basis and experimenting with new textures and instruments around the mouth and face for oral motor activities.
I did research in this area, which led me to Talk Tools® Innovative Therapists International. The site is located at http://www.talktoolstm.com. You can order a print catalog, read the weekly question and answer format as well as check the archives, find a oral motor therapist in your State, read articles like how a straw is used for therapy, place an order online, find a seminar and read the speakers biographies.
Innovative Therapists International (ITI) was formed in 1995 by speech pathologists and occupational therapists who had worked in the field of special education for many years.
Located in Arizona the orders are delivered through United Parcel Service (UPS), with Arizona and Texas having to pay sales tax. Any damaged goods, losses or shortages must be reported to Innovative Therapists International within thirty days. My shipments have arrived in less than one week's time. The products are specifically geared for oral motor and feeding deficits, whether the patient is an Adult or child, with or without special needs.
My first order was for a straw bottle, honey bear with straw bottle and a gator vibrator. The most recent order of one month ago was for another honey bear with straw bottle and the Talk Tools® Vibrator & Toothettes. There is also a Casper and Ellie Vibrator. These cost $13.00 $15.00 and are used for oral exploration and to add calming and organizing input. They run on one AA battery that is not included with your order. When searching around the products there is the option for a larger view with another window opening up to show just the photo.
Other items available through Innovative Therapists International include a NUK massager, sensory kit, beanbag, jaw exercise kit, kazoo, horn kits, chewy tubes, bite blocks, bubbles, finger feeder, Watkins extracts, latex super gloves, videos, tubing and puppets. They will not accept returns on opened items and refunds exclude the cost of shipping. I placed my order on a Wed online and it arrived via UPS the following Monday morning.
There is no tracking available on the site, but a confirmation is sent within a few minutes of placing your order. The site is easy to order through and after placing an item in your basket you can still shop and find items before checking out, cancel and change the quantity. During the checkout there is an option to either receive your order confirmation via fax or email. Residents of Hawaii, South Dakota and Alaska need to call a toll-free number to place their orders. The number also is available for those who require another shipping method, otherwise it is standard for all orders. The order number is given on the last page with the option to print it out. The items are all wrapped in separate plastic or baggie within a compact shipping box. The payment method is via MasterCard or Visa.
Shipping is according to total of order, with five dollars the lowest fee. An order within the hundred-dollar range will add $8.00 for shipping and handling. These prices are only for the Continental U.S. With each one hour video there will be one credit hour for ASHA CEUs.
I am very pleased with the products we have ordered and received in a quick manner. The vibrators are fun for my son and they are working on helping him with his oral motor deficits. The site is suited for students, professionals, therapists and parents.
