Thanks for all the great comments. (Reply to this comment)

I really appreciate them all. As for Harry Chapin, I've always liked him - his life ended much too soon. His band went through the U of I when I was there and it was one of the best concers I've ever attended.

My oldest child has been playing Alto Sax for four years. She has really gotten quite good at it, and loves music. I watch her, and I think I understand what you are talking about. Thank you for a terrific review, ~ Cyndi ~

great review John. What a subpurb return to writing in this category. This article certainly makes one think more about his priorities.
Great job.

Do you remember Harry Chapin? (Reply to this comment)
by frazzledspice
One of my favorite humanitarians (and contemporary songwriters/performers.) He left us much too soon.
In "Mr. Tanner", he wrote....
"Music was his life, it was not his livelihood,
And it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good,
He sang from his heart and he sang from his soul,
He did not know how well he sang; it just made him whole..."
Truer words were never written.
Thanks for your review.
Fondly,
Maryanne

How many ways can I say "I agree"? (Reply to this comment)

I think sometimes kids think of music as just another subject in school that they have to do, like math or english. But when you make music enjoyable, an outlet for creativity and emotion, then it really comes alive for a child or teen.
Thanks for putting into words almost everything I felt about music!

Music is not something I do, it's a part of who I am (Reply to this comment)

You've captured it perfectly. A wonderful editorial that helps verbalize why I am the way I am.
Thanks for sharing.
