When it comes to cleaning, I turn into a possessed woman once a month everything gets cleaned, whether it needs it or not. In my cleaning arsenal I have products that range from sweet smelling to the stuff youd find in the bathroom of a seedy truck stop and almost everything in between. About a year ago I submitted a SAP [Suggest A Product] form asking that this little miracle be added to the database because I was so impressed with how well it cleaned. If you havent had the chance to check this out yet, trust me on this, you have no idea what you are missing out on! When I first came across this I was really skeptical as to whether or not this would have the same cleaning power as the standard bottled Simple Green, after using this for almost a year I can say that this makes cleaning a lot easier, eliminates the need for a bucket when washing tires, wheels or rims on vehicles and can be pitched after a few uses.
Simple Green Scrubbing Pad
Dont let the small size of this cleaning pad fool you, its jam packed with Simple Green and will tackle almost anything you can imagine. I use this for my kitchen floors to remove wax build up in the corners, on my tires, in the hallway leading from the laundry room to my office and even on my baking pans if the parchment paper doesnt catch the run off. If youve ever used Simple Green you know how versatile it is, if you havent you really should check it out. One really important thing to know about this is that it isnt a sponge, it will absorb a fair amount of water but not as much as a sponge, this is basically for removing surface layers of dirt without having to mix up a batch of Simple Green or lug a bucket around when working on an automobile or doing your floors. The manufacturers say that this wont scratch delicate surfaces but you will want to do a test patch first to see how it reacts to the surface.
Ive successfully used this all over the kitchen and it works great for cleaning my stovetop and inside the oven but if you use any type of spray on cleaner inside the over, do not use this scrubbing pad since you may get a noxious odor that could really knock the wind out of you. The actual smell of the pad isnt the least bit offensive but you should work in a well ventilated area just in case you are sensitive to the smell. To use this all you have to do is slightly wet it, give it a few good squeezes until it produces a little foam then go to work. You can generally get about fifteen uses from it meaning fifteen rinses before it starts to lose its cleaning power. The size [three inches by four inches] makes it easy to grip and use however the first few times you use it, it will seem a little stiff. Once the cleaning agent is rinsed away from the pad you can still use it for general cleaning or to remove dirt from floors or wall but you will have to add your own cleaner to it. Unlike sponges, this can be left out to dry without worrying about the pores being damaged by drying out, in fact, the more it dries out, the more cleaning power you have. When it completely dries out all you have to do is wet it slightly and you have a stiff cleaning pad that will remove almost any type of dirt [great for grease build up too].
Things To Know
• I dont consider Simple Green to be a harsh product but if you have sensitive skin, you may want to use rubber gloves when using this product. If there is one thing I hate about most cleaning products its gotta be the smell that can be left over on your skin. No matter how many times you wash your hands or the amount of lotion you slather on, its still there. Since I have a lot of animals that I care for, the last thing I want is a trace of a cleaning product on my hands when I am working with their food. Using gloves may seem like a chore but it will help to keep your hands from drying out, getting chapped and retaining any smell.
• If you dont need to clean a large surface, you can cut the sponge to suit your needs. I suggest doing this over a trashcan because you will end up with a small mess. Store the unused sponge in a zipper style bag and make sure you clearly mark it Simple Green Scrubbing Pad so it doesnt accidentally get used for washing dishes. When I clean the spokes on the tires of my vehicle, I cut one of the sponges into four length long strips, then I all have to do is slide the strip between the spokes and it gets the job done in no time.
• You can find these almost everywhere these days from grocery stores to price clubs. The trend has finally caught on! I usually get these for less than a dollar at my local Smart & Final store but I have also seen them at Target [usually in the automotive section], Wal-Mart and K-Mart. These generally run anywhere from $1.00 to $1.50 and trust me, it is well worth it. I like the convenience of it as well as not having to carry around a bucket when I am working on one of the vehicles.
The Bottom Line
I highly recommend this product for general cleaning or when you really need some extra muscle. For the price it is not only a great value but a time saver too. Its stronger than the standard sponges that have that green reverse sided scrubber and the Simple Green doesnt wash away the first time you rinse it. If you have ever used Simple Green and loved the way it cleaned, this is a great alternative when you have a smaller job, dont feel like breaking out the bottle or need something that is a little more portable. This can be safely used on most surfaces including tile, ceramic tile, metal, plastic and rubber but I strongly caution you to do a test area first to see how the pad and cleaning agent work with the surface. As always, thanks for the read!
