Pros: lightweight, well constructed, a great whisk with a novel design, easy to clean
Cons: I bought one for my mother and forgot one for me!
The Bottom Line: It’s a sad fate, but the Bottom Line fell into the egg mix and the Calphalon Flat Whisk did too good a job. I leave the rest to your imagination.

| dlstewart's Full Review: Calphalon Black Nonstick Flat Whisk |
About a year and a half ago I purchased my mother the strangest looking cooking utensil. Mind you, I wasnt even sure what it was used for, but my mother loves kitchen gadgets and intuitively knows what each odd looking utensil is meant to do. A flat whisk! she proclaimed. I dont have one of these.
Enter the Calphalon Flat Whisk
Unlike most whisks, this whisk is not round ... it is flat. The whisk is incredibly lightweight and measures 13 1/4" long.
The handle is flat, only 3/8" deep x 5 3/4" long and almost 1" wide. The front of the handle has the Calphalon name embossed in the plastic. The back of the handle has a smooth notch where a finger can rest while using the whisk. The end of the handle has an oval cutout 5/8" long for hanging the whisk if desired. Another benefit is that the handle is ergonomically designed for hand comfort.
Doing additional research for this review, I discovered Calphalon has redesigned the handle of this whisk so that it is soft to the touch. Kitchenetcs website says: The high strength handle has soft touch rubberized sides for a firm grip.
The business end of this whisk looks like it belongs on a sports field perhaps as some sort of strange lacrosse scoop or high-tech snowshoe for a gnome. The whisk part is 7 1/2" long x 2 3/4" wide and is composed of a strong black nonstick nylon. A center spoke runs the length of the whisk. Connecting to this center piece are three U-shaped spokes. These U-shaped spokes are spaced 1/2" from each other and are slightly cupped. The ends of these spokes all meet at the base of the handle and are connected 1 1/4" before the handle begins. This is solid construction. The way this whisk is designed, I cant imagine any of these spokes coming loose.
Using the Whisk
This is my mothers favorite whisk for whipping eggs (scrambled eggs, French toast batter) or stirring the lumps out of gravy. Since the Calphalon Flat Whisk is wide, it covers more area of the pan or bowl than a narrow wire whisk. Being lightweight, its easy to hold this utensil for extended periods of time, too.
The whisk part is a bit flexible, which my mother likes for whisking her eggs and gravy. However, she would not use this whisk for anything thick like whipping mashed potatoes, cream or even egg whites (this whip is not designed to fluff food). The whisk is designed to whip light sauces, eggs, gravy.
She uses this whisk in all her of her cookware. That the whisk is composed of nylon makes it a sure bet for using safely in nonstick pans (no scratching!). Since this whisk is heat-resistant to 400-degrees F., it is fine to use in cooking pans on the stove. Also since the whisk handle is long, it keeps fingers away from hot pan surfaces.
Cleaning & Care
In a traditional wire whisk, the wires tend to overlap or cross each other. The Calphalon whisk has no overlapping pieces, which makes for easy cleaning. Simple to clean, just rinse this whisk in Dawn dishwashing liquid. Since the whisk is nonstick, it takes no time to clean. If you forget to immediately clean the whisk, just let it soak in water for a few minutes. Or if you are not planning to wash dishes immediately, set the whisk in a pot of water to soak while you do other things.

Summary
My mother enjoys having the Calphalon Nonstick Flat Whisk as part of her kitchen arsenal. She is a woman on a mission when it comes to cooking, and this whisk does a fantastic job of beating eggs so they are completely mixed and stirring the lumps out of gravy. In almost two years of use, this whisk looks brand new. This unique kitchen gadget is a hit in her kitchen.
I hope you have found this review useful.
