My Dedication to Gummi Bracelets,Jelly Shoes and Neon Clothing!

The Bottom Line I can't possibly rate these on a 1 to 10 scale so they are all at the top of my list!
I admit it I love the 80s! I had my most formative years in that time. I was 8-17 in the 80s and I am proud of it! Some of my favorite times in the 80s were Friday nights, having mom or dad drop me off 2 blocks from the movie theater, with my friends (so none of the older kids could see) and heading out to the Multi-plex to watch the newest Brat Pack Movie!
This is my dedication to every child of the 80s. May you have fond memories of these wonderful movies...I know I do!
Sixteen Candles- Who didn't dream of that hunky Jake?? Who didn't hope this would never happen to them On their 16th birthday? I remember going to see this movie as a 12 year old, and thinking, wow, so this is what High school is like... I CAN'T WAIT!. I remember cheering the moment Molly Ringwald looked across the parking lot and saw her dream hunk staring back at her leaning against his beautiful car! Besides who will ever forget the words, "What's happening HOTSTUFF?"!
The Breakfast Club- "Won't you forget about me..." NO WAY...how could anyone forget this wonderful movie about detention!! I mean it actually made detention look like fun. I wonder how many people actually got into trouble in High school during the 80s thinking that it would be like that! IT was there we met Judd, Ally, and Emilio! To this day, in TV shows, the famous running down the hall scene is copied by some popular shows of other 80s products such as Kevin Williamson, on his TV show Dawson's Creek. Now no one go and get any Tape, because taping tushies is BAD!
St. Elmo's Fire- How can you bring up the Brat Pack and not mention this movie? This movie is the BRAT PACK! Some feel it is them at their best, some disagree. One thing for sure. This movie introduced the world into the minds of young college graduates. It showed how hard it is to make it in the world after graduation. This movie shows truth even in todays world! It shows addiction problems, as well as relationships that grow and break apart people. This is the perfect movie, a great amount of laughs, with some sappy love stuff in it as well!
The Princess Bride- This is one of my favorite movies of all time, only second to Star Wars! Sigh...How I love Wesley and Princess Buttercup(I love Wesley more though!) Yes we can overlook that Fred Savage was in this movie. This of it this way, it introduced such stars as Mandy Pantikin, Mercedes Rule, Robin Wright, and Carey Ewes,to the Big Screen. Also Christopher Guest, and Billy Crystal are an added bonus! It has amazing lines, that you just can't help but quote. "Inconceivable!"you say? I do not think it means what you think it means! I leave you with this, "Hello, My name is Indigo Montoyo, you killed my father, prepare to die!"
Space Balls- Ok I know Mel Brooks, and a spoof on Star Wars, but this movie is very funny! It introduced us to Bill Pullman, and Rick Moranis as well! You can't help but laugh at these jokes, and it is just an all out silly movie that came out in the 80s that is a must for anyone!
Ferris Bueller's Day Off- There isn't much that has to be said about this movie, but it is definitely one of the best comedies of the 80s if not of all time! You can't help but enjoy everything about this movie, whether it's the nice car, the funny comments, the whit of Ferris Bueller himself, the wonderful tricks of the trade, or if it is just because of the eclectic musical selection. I have yet to meet a person to see this movie that totally hates it! There is only one thing you can say about Ferris, "They think he's a righteous dude"!
Pretty In Pink- Ok I guess I am a huge Molly Fan, because this is my favorite of all of the Molly Movies! I think this particular movie has to do with "Duckie". Ever feel alone in this world? Ever feel like you have it bad? This is the perfect pick me up movie! Besides you get to see James Spader in his boxer shorts! As well as Jon Cryer looking like an adorable Geek! Add in great music and you have one amazing movie! Heck, I can't keep a dry eye at the end when Duckie tells her to follow her heart and go get her love! Sigh.
Dirty Dancing- Ok I know this is dumb, but I love Dirty Dancing! This movie made me want to go up to the Catskills with my parents and look for my own Johnny!! Maybe I was just a hormonal 15 year old, but I can't help but have this movie on my list!
The Outsiders- Take an SE Hinton Book, Add in the hottest up and coming stars, and Leif Garrett and you get one amazing movie! I went to see this movie, because I had to read the book for school, and I loved it. I came away with a movie that I loved, and continue to watch every chance I get. Who doesn't love seeing a young Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Ralph, and Emilio?? What isn't to love!!
Karate Kid- I have two reasons behind actually putting this up as one of my favorites. The first reason is I feel this is a great movie about hop, courage, and how people can break barriers down! The other reason behind it is the man I loved with all of my heart(yes we broke up so I meant loved), was in it, and I have seen this movie 5000 times, or so it seems, because I used to like to see him in his younger years. This movie caused a huge Karate phase for many teenage boys, and got many girls wanting to be cheerleaders. Ralph Maccio Actually showed what he could do, as well as Pat Morita showed he could do more than play "Arnold" on Happy Days! This is a great 80s movie and an all time classic.
Yes I know most of you won't agree with my movie choices! In fact they are probably very different from what I would pick if I was growing up in the 80s now, considering how much I have changed, but these are movies that changed my life, and caused me to have fond memories! There were many movies I wanted to mention that I had no room for and felt they are on everyone's list such as Beverly Hills Cop,Fame, Risky Business, All the Right Moves, Space Camp, Flashdance, Close Encounters..etc etc. Some of the R movies I didn't get to see because I was too young! Some I felt were givens when it came to the 80s, and since this is about what movies I remember when I think of the 80s, I chose what I did!
I hope you all enjoy reading it, as Much as I enjoyed writing it!
